Neck knife suggestions?

I'm looking for a neck knife and have it narrowed down to a Camillus Arc Lite. I've considered the Livesay Woo and NRGS, but the Woo seemed like more of a backup weapon than a utility blade. The NRGS looked nice, but cost a little more than I was looking to spend. That having been said, does anybody have anything to say about the Arc Lite? I was thinking of cord wrapping the handle with 550 cord like the Strider knives, but would that make it too thick? Are there any other decent neck knives for $30 or less? Any other additional info would be greatly appreciated. One more thing before I forget, is www.1sks.com a good place to order knives from? I've never ordered knives online and they seem to be a reputable place. Thanks!

The Arc Lite seems like it'd serve you well, especially the D2 AG Russell edition. The La Griffe seems like a handy number, too.

I have an Arclite 440HC and am very happy with it. I wrapped the handle with 550, not "Strider style", but just a single wrap. I find the knife to be extremely easy to carry even with the cord wrap, and for a small knife I get a pretty secure grip. It holds an edge fairly well, and when it needs sharpening it just takes a few strokes on the Sharpmaker to bring it back to shaving sharp. I would say that it would be hard to find a better knife for $20.

I have Assault Shaker and think that it is the best. Its hard to beat Busse quality. I did alot of looking around and found that the Shaker was the best. Just my opinion though, Jerry might agree.

Great choice on the ArcLite. IMO, it's much better than any of the other knives mentioned, except maybe that Timberline, which looks good, too. Flat wrapping with 550 cord really helps, and the blades are very close to the custom version in specs, though they are flat ground. So close that the D2 ArcLite I had would lock securely into the sheath for my custom one in spite of not having scales (my custom has CF scales). I liked the D2 one, but sold it because the custom gets all the carry time-24/7. Wouldn't hesitate to get one in 420HC, though. Matter of fact, I may get one to play with. I've got a Kershaw Scallion in 420HC, and it's not bad at all.

I just ordered the ArcLite and can't wait for it to get here!:) While I'm waiting, are there any sites that would show me how to do a good cord wrap on the handle?

If you only have $20.00, the Arclite is the way to go. Having said that, The NRGS is worth the extra.

His new midtechs are unbelievably cheap and he now has ones with the diamond coating on them, harder than the steel underneath and rustproof!!

S30V!!!!!!!!!!!!! It makes the stuff those other guys are using look like butter knives! :p

CRKT just came out with a production version of the Crawford Fixed Falcon. I got one last weekend at Knife Expo and I love it! :D

I would skip the arclite, it doesnt take a very good edge, so it doesnt make a great utility blade.

If you keep your eyes open you can sometimes find a custom for a good price.

Do a search in the custom forsale by maker fixed blades, see who makes the cheaper ones and maybe order from them.

WOW what a timely thread

I just ordered the supplies to modify my Arclite

going to make scales of .125" Carbon Fiber

and as if that is not cool enough I'm going to extend the scales to form a Kerambit-type ring, since the blade is pretty close to .125" thick another piece of CF will fill the gap in the extended handles epoxied in place and contoured making the ring a solid piece of CF extending off the rear.

I will post pics hoping to do it this weekend if CF and rivets arrive

My Randall triathlete...I had Greg Gutcher make up a sheath for it for use as a neck knife...really neat "release" mechanism...unobtrusive, and of course, the Randall is great quality...holds a super edge and just well-made....some may think it is a bit pricey ..but everyone's entitled to their view.

:D :D :D

Arclite is sweet, and actually comes with a half-decent sheath.

As for as other cheaper neckies, CRKT's Drop Point stiff KISS, their Neck PECK, and their Carson F4 all have some appeal... but as far as I know they all come with crap Zytel sheaths... so you may incur extra costs getting them GOOD sheaths.
