Hi, i was thinking about my EDC knife, i have a small auto and was thinking in maybe getting a SAK. But watching the videos of Murray Carter i saw his neck knife, and it sound a good idea.
So, i wanted to know how much of you carry a neck knife and if you are happy with it. Also, what is the best neck knife?

I was looking for something that's resistant and can be throwed, and at the same time is small, because you know, you're carrying it on your neck!

I found this one for a good price:

It's a Crkt Columbia Outdoor Survival 2310 Gt Knife. And it looks like it have the perfect size. The only downside is the sheat that's very big to carry on the neck. I would need another one smaller...

I carried one that I made for a few weeks, and I liked it. Easy access and concealable, but I traded it away for money off a tattoo, and now the artist want 10 more to sell in his shop!

Pretty cool idea, that device known as the neck knife.
But it's a little tricky to wear in urban areas
where it would be considered as a
concealed you know what...
Then there is accessibility hang ups,
when you can't constantly hang it round the neck out in the open public.
More often than not it t than becomes a secondary carry thingy.
To be used only in case of an emergency.
But only useful
if you can get it out in a flash.
One probably needs to train constantly
in front of a mirror
to build muscle memory...

The mercharness kinda ruined neck knives for me. Why carry a small knife around my neck when I cam carry a full sized fixed blade in an awesomely comfortable and covert harness? Less of a risk of snagging too.

I still like small fixed blades, but I don't particularly care for neck knives anymore.

I carried mine exclusivly under the shirt, exept in my truck I would put it on the outside. But I could draw the knife faster than getting out any folder I own ( no waves or disks to catch on pockets) its a pretty slick idea, and no one ever knew i had it.

The thing is find one that really looks like a necklace to don't draw so much attention. In countries where there's law prohibing concealed weapons, how do you carry a folding knife?

Jastab! It's our little secret,
that's best left that way ;-)

it boils down to the type of folder specification
either locking or slip joint,
length and blade type.
And more than anything
a legitimate purpose to have a knife on your person.

There is always a risk for every time
one walks out the front door with a knife.
Chances of getting on the wrong side of the law escalates
whenever one is in a known unsavory environment.
It's less of a consideration if you're out in the woods.
Well, not unless you happen to oddly enough,
trigger off a wave of suspicion just by your general appearance and behavior

I hate to mention it GIRLYmann, but your poems don't rhyme. So I assume they're in kind of modern free verse and read them in Patrick Stewart's voice in my head.

But self-defense neck knife-wise (which I don't understand as a category but anyway), I'd say the Emerson LaGriffe. Weightless and dangerous. But for basic small fixed blade for in-the-pocket practical use, I'd go with the Candiru.

My favorite knife of all time is the Izula 2. If I could change one thing about it, it would be to have it made out of SR101. But seeing as that's never going to happen I'll just have to be content with it. :D I also carry it in the pocket as it's a lot more convenient for me there. I've tried neck carry and it's just not for me.

As for throwing knives I can't say as I value a good edge on my knife and throwing it will destroy the edge.

I agree with Shotgun on the knife selection. In my opinion ESEE set the standard for neck knives when the made the Izula 2. I usually just pocket mine. And if you dont mind me asking, why does it need to be thrown?

please don't throw anything but an actual throwing knife. they are built and designed very differently to withstand the abuse.

as far as neck knives, the ESEE Izula seems to hold the crown around here. they make a fine product. if I could conceal a fixed blade here in Cali I would probably get one. I don't like neck carry though, if probably pocket it.

I find a neck knife a terrifically convenient way to carry, around home and the garden, or while camping or hiking. I nearly always have my shirt tucked in, so rapid deployment doesn't work for me, its just the sheer convenience. I have a Camillus Arclite, combo edge, and a CRKT Falcon, both of which see carry time. Great little knives, both of them. Don't throw knives unless the steel is kinda soft, the shock may well crack your blade, or worse. Of course, in an emergency, anything can be thrown. There is a YouTube clip of Mike Janich throwing a fork and getting it to stick....
