I'm looking for a neck knife. It's more for work than for personal protection so I'd like it to be as small and light as possible.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Steve

I have the Benchmade Tether knife. More pricey than the CRKT, but I like the grip material on the handle of the tether.

Email me. I am going to be making some D2, 154-cm and some tantung small neck utility knives in the near future if you are interested.

Easy, cord wrapped "Livesay Woo". Great knife, great sheath. Expect to do a little work on the edge to get it perfect though. Cheap as well, but great quality and good edge holding.

Newt makes some great little neck knives (I have three) but they all seem too big to me. I have a couple of CRKT's and like the size of the "Neck Peck" (I love Wharncliffes!). You will have to cord wrap the CRKTs yourself. :)

My favorite though is my Carson F4, 5.5" long, almost half of it blade. I see that CRKT has a collboration out, but I haven't handled one yet.

Depending on what kind work you want it for, an Emerson La Griffe is compact, high quality, razor sharp, great grip forward or reverse, and it leaves your hand free when you're using it. You can take off the chain and use it as a keychain or pocket knife.

Another vote for CRKT's Neck Peck. I cord-wrapped the handle and then "painted" the cord with epoxy. Makes a nice slip resistant grip. The CRKT F4 is great too. I wear mine on my belt though.

I like my REKAT Hobbit Fang(s) as a neck knife. (I've been thinking about putting thin scales of black linen micarta on one of 'em.).

  • If you want to use it for utility only, try Fällkniven WM-1. A 3 inch blade is sufficient.
  • If you also want to have it as protection, try Fällkniven Garm G1 Fighter. Double-edged, black blade. Both these knives are made in VG10 steel. Fällkniven is a good company to deal with, with high quality knives.
  • The Stiff Kiss is a good starting point, at a lower price.
  • There is also a knife called Böker Bud Nealy MCS, that comes with a 3 inch (approx) blade, and a sheath, that enables the knife to be fastened upside down to the inside pocket of your suit. It can also be used as a neck knife. There are nine ways of fastening the knife to your body. I like it. It uses a magnet to hold the knife properly, so that there is no risk of losing it even if you have it fastened upside down. I find that the Stiff Kiss is a bit too "stiff" when it comes to releasing the knife from the sheath, but again, there is a price difference.

i have several and the most useful is my camilus arclite. $19.95 from ag russell

for utility use i would get a cammilus arc lite, it is more usefull for utility due to the V grind on the blade - for protection, would get the 'woo' no doubt about it - but really, either one would work, and they both cost less than $35 ya cant beat them imho

The MT Medallion has a funny draw angle: the knife has to be pivoted to draw from the sheath. You have to practice the move and be confident with it before hanging it around your neck. Otherwise you might be shaving your chest hair or slicing off your belly fat when drawing the knife :D
