Hi guys my first post here in a long time. I have been looking on the site for a while and learned a lot so I wanted to join in. I ordered two neck knives because who doesn't need more knives haha I wanted to have them to wear when fishing and not wanting to get anything in my pocket wet if wading around the water. I also get tired of getting bait and crap in my folder knives so a small fixed blade works great.
On to the knives, first is my Izula. This was my first paracord knife wrap so its a little loose and could be better. I used neon green cord and a Strider 360 wrap pattern.

I wanted to make it more secure incase it ever came loose in the sheath, which I don't think it will the sheath is a great fit but still I wanted to see if I could rig one. You can see the cord wraps over top over where the blade pulls out then through the back and goes up to the string with the knot at the end.

If the knife did come loose from the sheath it would catch on this cord like below. There is enough friction tension on the paracord from being forced together through there that it does not slip.

Below you can see if I pull that loop loose before taking the knife out I can slip it down over the edge and out of the way of deploying the knife out. This does slow down getting the knife out because you have to pull the secure loose but it can be done one handed and if it saves this awesome knife from falling in the water I will be very happy.

Next is the Columbia River Knife and Tool 2385 Folts Minimalist. I love this little knife it feels great in hand and I look forward to cutting up some bait with it. Price was right at just under $25. I ended up going with a very simple secure on this. It fits nice under the shirt and now I feel comfortable wearing it. The sheath was nice but not as solid as the Izula.

The back you can see just tied simple over hand knots and melted them down. I pulled the blade out and you can see how it catches on the bottom of the blade.

I really like this knife and how secure it stays in there. It is lightweight and comfortable to wear for a day of fishing. At first I really tried to come up with a fancy way to use the clip but this ended up working well. I am sorry for the pics I took them all with my iPhone tonight which is the best camera I have so looks like Ill have research one now.

Thanks for reading my post and I hope you guys enjoyed. Let me know what you think of my safeties and post up any that you have made. Thanks

Thanks this was my first attempt at this. Im sure the paracord will get smelly from bait guts and sweat eventually but then I will get to rewrap it again and use new colors and a new design if I come up with one. I really like the Minimalist for how secure and simple it is.

A lot of inguineity there, but I'm not certain that the paracord will hold the tension over time. So if the design requires the cord to be "taught" you may wind up having to retie it a lot as it loosens.

Nice design. I'm going to have to try it on my izzy.

On the wrap. One thing I really like about the "strider wrap" is that it gives the knife extra thickness which eleviates some of the pressure on the webbing of your hand when doing power cuts. Not as great as scales but MUCH better than the usual wrap people do. I recommend aligning the "knots" on the sides toward the spine instead of in the middle like you have it. This gives you the most width where you need it. Another plus to this wrap is that it has gaps and you can bring the loose ends back and weave them in with a crochet hook. Of course, that would eliminate your skull bead.:(:D

I have one neck knife I did something similar to. I only use it if I don't think it will be needed for a wile as it slows down the draw.

I carry neck knives rather often, never once have i had one come loose from the sheath.

Neat idea youve got, but it just seems like a hinderence when you go for your knife.

Thatd be like adding a thumb safety to a glock...

How has the Folts Minimalist worked out so far for fishing? I've been thinking of getting one soon. I've been really wanting a small Wharncliffe shaped fixed blade, and the price is right!

So far I love the Folts, the price is right and it handles cutting bait just fine. Also easy to sharpen on my stones. I usually have a folder on me anyway but I hate having to clean nasty crap out of the folder so having a small fixed blade like the Folts gets the job done and is easy to clean. The paracord does get a little smelly after a while from sweat and chicken liver juice but I have so many colors that it just gives me a reason to make some more :)

Oh and don't have your girlfriend take you to the bar after fishing and then get too drunk to remember to bring the chicken livers in from her car. They smell and look really nasty when they go bad. Lucky for me my girl loves fishing heres a shot of her looking scared of a bass hahahahaha I had to make her hold it I told her you need a photo with the bass.

Excellent, thanks for the info.

My wife wouldn't touch a fish even if I paid her. I'm making sure that doesn't happen to my kids. I take my son and daughter fishing with me as much as possible. Tight lines!
