Neck Knives?

If the main purpose of neck knives is self defense, why are more of them not push daggers?? Push daggers require no special fighting skills and are extremely hard if not impossible to take away from a person.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!http://www.nebsnow.com/L6steel

The only thing that I can think of is the legality of carrying a push dagger, which are seen as "evil" by the law, and if you were carrying it under your shirt, it would only complicate your legal situation.

Neck knives can be a concealable and quickly accessible self defense knife, especially with a good multicarry sheath. But, many of them are simply great utility knives. Love my Running Dogs, Chevar Saucon, Meerdink 3 fingers and Hallberg best of all for all around use. The Falkniven WM1 ain't bad either.

I'm wearing my La Griffe right now. Of all of them, it was designed for fighting, but it also makes a handy, and comfortably light utility knife. I like the idea of the REKAT UNK, too. That looks ideal for general purpose work.

Hmm, for me I like a neck knife to also work as a utility knife. I have never really seen a push dagger that I like, and IMO you would not be able to explain it as a working knife.

UPDATED and REVISED

I concur with the observation that neck knives make excellent utility knives. As an example I point to the Woo and NGR-s neck knives made by Newt Livesay's Wicked Knife Co. (I prefer the Ex model of both w/ mircata handles). Both are very useful albiet for different purposes, the NGRs with it's flat ground spear point blade makes a superb paring knife. The Woo's chisel ground tanto point is very well suited to household chores, opening boxes and the like. Both knives display outstanding ergonomics and the 1095 steel is heat treated very well, providing ease of sharpening and a "wicked edge".
Be safe,
Chad

My opinion... Neck knives suck as defencive knives, but make a great utility knife.

My Take on this is that, and I agree with all of you, that a neck knife is not a very good defensive weapon, and it does make a great utility knife. They are also just plain cool to collect, and wear! I would also say though... If I ever did get myself into a bind, and I didn't have anything but my little Crawford Tanto neck knife, I think I would make do.

Very nice Rick! Larry does some fine work, and seeing your pictures makes me want to get them too. Are they available?

Blademan/Ray,

Seriously? Push daggers are illegal where in your experience?
