I don't realy understand exacatly the purpose of these things to edc but they realy do intrest me and I like the idea of having a fixed blade on top of my current folder the Spyderco Tenacious and soon to be Para-military 2.

Anyone mind telling me what they use their neck knives for on an EDC basis, and what would be a good one for EDC.

I dont want to invest alot of money into one of these in case I dont like it mabey like 40-50$.

I like carrying one for personal protection. No one would ever expect you to be carrying a knife around your neck. I use mine for a little bit of everything.

I carry the Spyderco Swick. The first one.

Pick up the CRKT/Ritter RSK MK5 and give it a try to see if you like carrying a neck knife first. It can be found for around 15 dollars online and is a very nice little fixed blade. I use my neck knives for all kinds of different tasks. From self defense to any task i dont want to subject a folder too. Its also great if you are going somewhere you cant take a folder or just want something small and concealable.

I neck carry either an Izula or Swamp Rat Swamp Warden every day. For me they serve the role as a back up knife in case I loose or break my pocket folder. Just as important, I use them for hard/dirty use, such as cutting burlap off a tree root ball in the dirt when planting or light prying, etc. Things I would prefer not to do with my spyderco folder.
It's also nice if I forget my folder one morning or I'm rushed to change clothes after work and forget to swap my knife over to the new pants, at least my neck knife is still on me.

are there other knives that are similar tothese as the warden is hard to find and i have read that the izula has rust and edge maint problems

The Bark river Bravo necker is stainless steel and won't rust on you. It's a great knife as well just slightly thinner than the Izula. Honestly they're all three great, I wouldn't base any preconceptions on what you've heard online.
I will say the Swamp Warden may be the best feeling knife in large hands but it's also the heaviest so it depends on how sensitive your neck is to the weight.
I love all three but for daily wear I keep coming back to the Izula for my purposes.

Swamp Wardens have only come out periodically. There've been a few batches, with one just ending recently. You might contact Eric Isaacson and see if there were any unclaimed extras if you want a Warden.

Seems like there was/is a ESEE and Becker collaboration in the works...

I recently converted to a carrying a neck knife but on my belt horizontally or in my back pocket. I find the simplicity a plus because I'm never concerned about dipping it into a mud hole to cut out a tree root or any other task that might not be healthy for the mechanicals of a folder. Just rinse it off when I'm done, maybe touch up the edge and a little WD and back in business.

I still carry a gentlemen's folder that's sheeple friendly for more mundane tasks.

My preferred is the Izula or Becker BK11 with the nod going to the Izula due to the slightly larger handle.
