Neck knives

ESEE. I'm sure there's others but what do you consider easy to wear? Does that mean light, small, certain style sheath or all of the above?

I should have said Who makes good neck knives period.I guess they are all easy to wear.

Becker, BK11 and 14, Bark River (Bravo Necker 1 and 2), ESEE (Izula I and II), and a wide variety of custom makers. Just to get you started.

I also recommend you take a look at the Becker BK11, 13 (very small and light), and 14. Awesome knives, the price is reasonable and they can be customized easily.

Morris knives makes a great mini necker. He makes a few bigger ones aswell.

Neck knives annoy me.

Now, don't get me wrong, I use 'em. In fact, I wore a Mark Wohlwend neck knife all this past weekend while boating and camping, and it got used a lot. I have a Becker BK-11, BK-13, my kids all have BK-13s, and I have multiple Izulas. Everyone should own an Izula. They're all excellent tools and the neck knife concept is sound especially if you're going to be sitting (I was kayaking and then hunkered down by the campfire a lot this weekend). My problem is that I can't find a carry method that isn't uncomfortable and doesn't just get in the way all the time.

Forget a single strand of 550; might as well be a strand of barbed wire.

I've been experimenting... I've got a rig on one of my izulas where I threaded standard 550 through some hollowed-out Arteplas large diameter p.e.t. cord, and then put a little 'ring' of ranger band on. I slide the 'ring' up toward my throat to cinch down the neck area to keep it from swinging back and forth and sawing through my damn skin. That works okay. The larger diameter cord feels slightly better against the skin. The knife still swings out when you lean forward though.

This weekend with my Wohlwend necker I used two strands of leather lace and kept the knife high up on my chest. That worked better as far as swinging around, but then you're reaching up and unsheathing the knife right next to your face. Leather lace sucks and is uncomfortable. By the way, this knife sheath is tip-down... I think it's pretty clear that tip-up for a neck knife is by far the best way to go if you can get the sheath retention dialed in. Becker and Izula sheaths are good as far as this goes.

My oldest made a lanyard out of really soft suede, and I want to try that next. Unsure how strong it is, but it's appears to be really comfortable. But then there's still the problem of the knife swinging around. Maybe velcro on the back of the sheath? A clip of some sort? Superglue? I dunno.

Neck knives annoy me.

I'm not fond of neck carry either. My knife of choice is the Izula 2. It's actually my primary woods knife though I carry it in the front pocket.

The perfect neck knife for me is the Todd Begg Tree Frog. I have tried a whole lot of knives, and this is perfect for ME.

I think the BK11 is a great knife,It is a little big for neck carry. Take a look at TOPS key knives. I have the Key B it is just about the right size I think.

Maybe not the greatest utility knife but I own and use the CS Double Agent II and it works very well as a neck knife. The GFN plastic sheath has excellent blade retention using the finger hole as a fitting.

While I'm not too fond of carrying a knife around my neck I do like these smaller fixed blades and love to pocket carry them at times. With that being said my favorite smaller fixed blades that can be carried around the neck if prefered are the Blind Horse Lg Tiger Knapp, Swamp Rat Swamp Warden and the Scrapyard Scrapivore also I've got an ESEE Izula I and a Becker BK11 Becker Necker these are both fine popular knives that have gained quite a bit of popularity.

This thread needs more necker pics!!!

Yup, that's an excellent way to carry a neck knife, tip down into the sheath. Who made that sheath? I've got a Mark Wohlwend bushcrafter in 1095 that I absolutely love, and I've got one of his tin knives on the way (should have gotten here already), which I plan to wear as a neck knife. Since it's got a Kydex sheath, I'll wear it in the somewhat-less-perfect tip-up position, retained by friction. But I'd prefer the kind of sheath being worn in that photo. Since the tin knife is so small, though, I don't think it will be an issue. I hope I get the knife tomorrow! :D

1066vik here on BFC made it as a Christmas present. Really awesome and she loves it.

Shoulda gone for the leather, man! Mark's design for the leather sheath on those tin knives is perfect for neck carry, due to the hole placement and snap closure (remember that I prefer tip-up for neck carry). Anyway, that's going to be a darn good and ultra-light neck knife.

If you take a look at my avatar you'll see I'm fond of Murray Carter's neck knives.
They are pretty superior.
