Neck Nife Problems

Well, it's not really a problem... I like neck knives. The convenience of them is great. The short blade is very hand for utility work, as well as unintimidating to the sheeple. Well here's my problem... I am 6'3" 290 and have big hands. I am too clumsy to attempt to hold onto handles shorter than 4 and 1/4" long. Are there any neck knives out there that have a Longer handle, maybe 4.5" with a blade about 2.75 inches? This keeps the knife still relatively small overall length, but still let's you have a beefier handle. Are there any production or custom knives out there that fit this description, or would I be better off to draw one up and just have it made? Thanks for the input.

The first thing that came to my mind was the Boye Basic Hunter, Jeremy. But after I checked they have a 2.75" blade length, but only 3.75" in the handle. It looks like a good style for what you are interested in though. My suggestion would be to talk to a custom maker and get exactly what you want. The cost should be similar to a quality production blade and you'll probably wind up being a lot happier.

I agree. This is one reason, among many, why customs are so good. I recommend Neil Blackwood and Wally Hayes, There are quite a few great neck knife makers out there, but you certainly can't go wrong with either of these two.

The Allen Blade tadpole might work. 3" blade of 1095 or Talonite with choice of drop point, clip point or tanto and 4 1/4" micarta handle.

Newt Livesay could hook you up with something, and at a reasonable price too.

Thanks guys. I will give some of these guys a try. I have looked at Neil and Alan's stuff a lot on their websites. Very clean designs. From all the good reviews they get here, I may have to give them a call or drop an e-mail to them and see what we can come up with. Again, thanks for the help. Any more suggestions?

I had the same challenge, so I just got myself a nice Bob Dozier knife and attached my own cord. All Bob's knives fit very securely in their Kydex sheaths, this allows for inverted carry of the knife with no worries. Also, the way Bob makes the sheaths allows the wearer to be able to press on a small cutout of the sheath (with your thumb)or on the back of the Belt Loop holder and out comes the knife just as easy as you please! It's really neat. Attaching the cord is also easy due to the holes for the Rivets on the sides of the sheath.

Now Bob does make Neck Knives but like you I prefer a Drop Point hunter pattern due to the Blade and Handle lengths (more like what you are wanting). And for the price that you pay (around $150 sheath incl) you get an absolutely great knife! So don't overlook this option, I think you'll be pleased.
