Was just wondering if the original necker was ever offered as a factory 2cd and if it was, how was it marked as there is no handle to put the punch mark under.

Intersting question!! I am fairly sure mine is, but I haven't noticed any marking on it to indicate that it is

Also, aren't there two versions of the original Necker - with different lanyard hole geometry? (not intending to shanghai this thread, redwood22).

The 1st run has a pointed back end vs the squared end on the newer ones. The idea being a more secure lanyard attachment spot.

It took me some time to remember... I believe we gave them away or threw them away depending on how bad they were. There were also a lot of "Necker shop knives" before we moved.

So... a Necker 2nd in the wild would be pretty rare? Any markings to identify them?

There wouldn't be any markings. Those were done before we started making Factory 2nds available so we hadn't come up with a marking system yet. I believe the last of them were given to Christian to take back to college. So if you know of a Philly art grad trying to unload a Necker... well that's one way to know it's a 2nd.

I double checked my order, jan 13 2015, was listed as a factory 2nd, but like all of these knives, it came in perfect. That started the fire...
