Happy 4th all! I have several BK11's and 14's and enjoy them very much. So I would like to know from those of you that have the San Mai version of this knife, is there much difference in performance, is it worth the extra cost for the benefits gained. Thanks for any replies.

Happy independence day neighbor!

Edge retention and ease of sharpening are too close to really care about. San Mai isn't coated so you can strike a fire steel, although it's incredibly easy to take the coating off the others. Basically i carry it around for the "wow" factor I get with the two tone blade in spite of the "Holy S#%&! THAT MAN HAS A KNIFE" I get with my black one.

it's deluxe metals and pretty nature cost more. that's about it. if you want that, buy it. if you want a knife and don't care about looks, buy the regular version. that's about it :)

as for performance, i'd probably put a finer edge on the san-mai version, so it was like a razor, and keep another knife for rough duty.

The SanMai Necker can be honed to a ludicrous sharp edge. Not saying the regular Necker can't, but I do believe the SanMai I received factory is sharper than the Devil's tongue.

don't you guys have sheath-dull problem like me?
I tried both the drop point sheath and the tanto sheath, both make my knife dull...
