Going to try this as a necker for a bit. Seems light enough.

Is it cold enough that you will be wearing extra layers already? Or are you planning on wearing it outside of your shirt? I know this may seem like a dumb question but I live in a Texas and while not illegal it would draw a lot of unnecessary attention.

well that's one way to deal with the tweener sheath, I just cant bring myself to take a knife to mine yet lol :)

Now that's commitment

Since I have a couple of the shorts and a few extra sheaths now I'm thinking about modding one of them. They seem a bit bulky. You've just inspired me to get out the scissors.

Choked on my martini when I saw sheath pieces everywhere

:D I actualy liked the sheath and felt that it was light years better than some of those black bags, other than that the snaps on mine were so-so for retention. The bottom snap was a bit better so this worked for me.

No, not cold, crops are just barely coming off right now. I used to live in the north were hip carry was less of an issue. Now I live in the south and drive to the edge of town for my cutting tool use. I run into nature hikers, dog walkers etc. By dropping this under a jacket when it cools off I can still have a tougher F.B. on me to work wood with. My plan is not to scare the beejeezuz out of the house wife with her dog and kids.

I was thinking about doing this with my bk9

Since the pic I routed the cord back through the top from back to front, by cutting small slits. The knife had a slight top heavy forward slant before, but now sits very close to neutral ballance. I tried this with my ESEE 4 but it is way too heavy.

I figured that I would just grab another Spec Ops Combat Master if this crashed and burned. Seems to have worked out ok though.

It should work quite well. If it gets too heavy make a neck lanyard with a cobra stitch- I can comfortably carry a 2 in the stock sheath that way. Really doesn't feel any heavier than an 11. Of course it is heavier- and I won't ever carry a 2 around my neck but just having it hanging there for 5 mins walking around the house it's actually pretty comfy.

Okee doke. It turns into a neat little compact sheath after all is said and done. But if hip carrying a lot of the grip will be exposed to catching brush, unless a shirt or jacket is over it.
