Hey to all on bf .
I have been badly affected by the busse addiction as of late so my judgement is clouded and slightly biased .
So i am looking for a lil bit of advice and help i am trying to choose a necker for my lady .im torn between two designs and companies .
Medford and spartan .the blades i am referring to are the spartan enyo and the medford thorn i like both designs but it isnt for me so i need to choose one .
Any experience with either knives or companies or info would be appreciated .i know they r both s35vn. Otherwise id buy both but need to keep funds for the addiction lol

Well, I don't own either knife but ...

1. The Enyo looks like it would be more comfortable in the hand (even a woman's hand). The way the Thorn tapers almost to a point at the back end looks kinda odd and not the most comfortable.
2. The Enyo is also in stock and Thorn looks like it has a lead time of several months.

Sorry, wish I had more to tell ya. Good luck!

I tried carrying neck knives and found it wasn't really for me, but I did rapidly learn that if you're actually carrying it as a necker and not just buying a necker for it's diminutive size and carrying it some other way, the thinnest, lightest knife with the least-bulky sheath is the way to go.

Of the two, the Thorn appears to be lighter and thinner, so I'd lean that way. In reality I'd lean towards thinner and lighter still, but that could be a matter of taste and use case differences (e.g. I carried a neck knife intending it for utility use, not defense--I carry a firearm for self defense purposes already). In my case my favorite neck knife of the half dozen I tried is definitely the oddly-shaped Perrin Le Bowie neck knife. It's only 1.4oz (2.2oz with the sheath) and after reprofiling it to a convex shape that was not quite as thick behind the edge I've found it to be a great little utility knife. The deep finger choil was initially off-putting because it makes the knife sort of stick out of your fist like a claw when you're gripping it with your index finger in the choil, but I got used to it and it feels fine in use. In comparison the Envy is twice as heavy and twice as thick, which doesn't sound like much until you try it as the pendant on a necklace and it's swinging around and printing through your clothes.

What's the intended carry method and purpose?

Personnally the thought of trippin up or comin off my bike with a knife around my neck is enough for me not to wear one accidemts do happen .
But i do enjoy my esee izula for its small size its my box cutting companion and other various jobs in garden or about the house .
It does all that type work perfectly i would also carry a concealed small knife either on my waist or inside jacket pocket they r both nice designs for a last ditcher the thorn and enyo that is .

The intended carry is a back up slash self defense .

But carried where on the body? As a neck knife, or elsewhere? I get buying a necker to carry elsewhere, because thin and flat and light means easily concealable wherever you're planning to use it.

Of course there are a couple of other considerations with a woman, if it's actually for neck carry. For example my wife wears a 32G bra. She's not a large woman, but a neck knife on her might either have difficulty being positioned unobtrusively or perhaps be very deeply concealed.

On me I found it annoying to wear around my neck because it swung around occasionally but mostly because I found it often printed through clothing. I liked the idea of a neck knife because fixed blades are great in use and it would free up pocket space, but it just didn't work for me well. Bizarrely, I find it much easier to conceal firearms than I did the neck knives I wore . . .

On the bright side, it turns out that Perrin I mentioned makes a great pocket knife. Though it's small it's long fairly wide compare to a folder, but it's also super thin; it's half as thick (including the sheath) as most folders, so I find it rides comfortable in the pocket with my wallet. I'm wearing jeans today, driving most of the day across a few states. Wallet in front left, with my Le Bowie neck knife that I won't wear on my neck it its kydex sheath, and craptastical DB9* 9mm pistol in a kydex Pocket Locker sheath from Vedder in my front right.

* Note to gun guys before you rip me for carrying a DB9: I also own the smallest 9mm guns from Sig, Glock and Kahr, but none are as small and light as the DB9. I have north of a thousand rounds through it without a hiccup and it hits what I aim at. It rattles and looks like it was built by the lowest bidder, but at this point I trust it to go bang on request. It provides me 9mm goodness in a package that isn't much larger or heavier than my favorite .380 (a Ruger LCP II).

Its kinda a surprise so i cant ask she has a large size chest double ds so chest table carry is out .spose itd be on back of waistband or boot more than likely personnally id just carry whatever i felt like but i wanted to buy her something for herself she usually gets my hand me downs

As a company, I'll take spartan all day. Far less ridiculous. That said, in this instance, it would appear the Medford is actually thinner and liter! I do own the Enyo, and after thinning out the edge, it does edc tasks just fine.

Disclaimer: I don't carry neck knives around my neck. Couldn't stand it. The only one that was remotely acceptable was the Spyderco ARK. Which brings me to my recommendation: fully serrated Spyderco ARK. Fully stainless. Take it in the shower! Spyder edge would be devastating as a quick hit, last ditch slashing tool. For me at least, it was small and thin enough to be an actual neck knife.

Not to get all prac-tac on you here op, but I hope this neck knife "weapon" is your third or fourth option.

Edit: Just say this was for your lady, not sure how I missed that. What does she carry now? Is the neck knife going to be the only thing she carries? I'd seriously look at the ARK. Look at what it was designed for.

Between the 2 the Enyo looks looks more comfortable in the hand. Also looks to have a deeper finger groove and a jimped thumb ramp and tail which I like in a small knife. I dislike the idea of a necker sized knife of SD I think they are just too small and light(by Design) to be of any use, IMO the are strictly for utility.

I also think craytab craytab 's suggestion of the spyder-edged ARK would be a superior choice to both, the textured scales will be better and easier to hold and retain than any skeletonized knife. If you are 100% set on one of your two options, I would get some para-cord in colors she likes and wrap them, super lightweight and slim way to add some tactile retention.

The Enyo is a terrible self defense neck knife because your finger is right up against the edge in a traditional grip. It is also very thick behind the edge, that said I love mine.

The Medford I have no experience with but that said it also looks poorly suited to self defense.

Since it is for your girl you should get something that prevents her hand from sliding up the blade when she uses it:

Please check out thd Spyderco ARK which as craytab noted was made for this purpose.

Evilgreg’s Fred Perrin Le Bowie is also an excellent utility/self d knife. Actually pretty much any Fred Perrin neck knife is made for self defense and has grip retention/slip prevention built into the design.

Most importantly both those suggestions are very thin and easy to carry on the waist band without being noticed so she will be more likely to wear it.
