Just got a Jim Burke designed Randall King knives Syphon neck knife in the mail today. I've been passively looking for a good neck knife for a while now. I had a CRKT that really wasn't suppose to be a neck knife but that was one of the carry option. It was just too heave to use so I sold it. Everything else I've ran across was either way more than I wanted to spend, cheap crap, or I just didn't like the design that much, but I'm really digging this Syphon.

It has a Wharncliff shaped blade with a bit of a curve that I really like. It made of ATS-34, which if I remember right it's pretty close to 154cm. Would anyone care to chime in on how corrosive resistant this steel is? I hope it's pretty good because it's get hot here in AR and tend to sweet like a pig. :D

One thing I don't like is all the writing all over the side of it, but I guess that's just being picky.

Anyway, I'd like to cord wrap the handle and had a matching fob to it. So if anyone have any links to some good tutorials as to how to go about wrapping the handle and/or making fobs it would be much appropriated.

ats-34 is japanese 154cm; my understanding is that they are virtually the same.

Im just curious, is this an emergency self defense blade or just a small fixed blade for edc? mostly you see wharncliffs on edc blades.

I think the blade shape is one where there is just enough curve that it could make a good slasher for SD, but still be good for EDC type task. My intended purpose is primarily EDC back up to my folder that could be used for SD in a pinch.

I use mine kayaking . I took a lot off the blade as it was overly obtuse in the edge for my tastes. I wrapped the handle with para cord with the inner core strands removed. I also blunted the tip and can double as a gutting tool. All in all its a sweet necker. The only complaint is the sheath got loose and now needs to be repressed.
I would like a sheath made that covers more of the handle and cord wrapping. That way it would be easier to resheath.

Sounds interesting. Could you post a pic of the mods? I'm assuming since you didn't mention it that you didn't have any issues with corrosion using kayaking.
