So my project today is to put together a neck rig with one of Mark Wohlwend's Pukko style knives. I know not everyone uses or likes the neck carry, but I know I have read about a few of you having neck setups. If you don't mind could you post up some pics of your own and/or some recommendations on how to go about this.

At the very least I figure this can be a place where those of us who have put some time into our neck knives can show off what we have done.

I will post mine up when its done.

Best,

I love neckers. Here is one of mine.
A Final Option knife and some survival goodies that go with the sheath.

Ok so here is what I came up with. The knife is a Mark Wohlwend Pukko. I went ahead and removed the leather belt loop that came attached to the sheath. Put some, three to be exact, ranger bands on the sheath and that became the foundation for my kit.

The contents include:

A small metal whistle from REI attached to a hole in the kydex by a small key chain ring
A small fero rod and striker which are both attached to the neck string and then tucked into a ranger band
A proton LED light also attached to the neck string and tucked under a ranger band
Several feet of brass snare wire rolled and tucked behind a ranger band
A small compass and thermometer also behind a ranger band
A Gerber diamond sharpener rod held by the ranger bands

I strung the string through the holes in the sheath in a way that makes it hang so that the knife is easier to draw with my right hand. I also used a small (i cant think of the actual name but...) compression clip thingy to allow me to change the length of the cord. I found that if I let it all the way out I can wear the knife in more of a baldric fashion under my left arm. This is actually very comfortable.

Overall pretty basic, but all stuff i have found useful to have on you in the wood. Honestly I can't say I have ever used snare wire for making a trap, but i did use it to reattach a button to my uniform shirt the other day.

thanks for reading

usually don't carry one. When I do, it's very minimalistic.

(the Izula doesn't always wear that colourful jacket :o)

I think I need to put one of these together. Never wore a knife on my neck.

I know this thread is for ppl who carry their set up around their neck (which i love for outdoors carry) but you can easily drop the sheath into your pocket. I had one with just a bic on it that i carried in my pocket. What items do i use everyday? Knife and Lighter

that's very true, and I have been known to do just that on occasion. I have a couple smaller knives...one by Mark Wohlwend, and one by John (of JK Knives) that come in a pocket sheath. IMO its just as good a way to carry a knife. Its also a little more sheeple friendly

thi is the way I carry my PSK kit (juice+K&M matchcase) hanging from my belt using a landyard ;-) so no weight into my pocket

I'm a newbee, so are Necker Knives basically a quick, small, survival type of knife, that I can custom make a small sheathe or kit with what I might need in a survival situation ?

a "necker" is basically any small fixed blade worn around the neck, not necessarily a "survival" type knife- many are used everyday, just like a knife you'd keep in a pocket

they can be part of a survival setup though certainly :)
