Headed up to the woods for a bit yesterday but the wind was kicking and few branches had come down. so I figured it best to change my plans.. but I did take some pice of my newly handled bk-11 and my little kit of some bare essentials I keep with it.

That's a really nice little kit, John. The more I see them, the more I like those handles, too.

THe handles really do allot to make this usable as a primary blade.. It really fills the hand nicely... is;d be awesome if they made a standard "grivory version" I'm seriously debating putting a bowdrill divot in the micarta. for use as a bearing block. but the scales are thin... Hmmm.

My thoughts — and they're just my thoughts — would be that the scales on the BK-11 are a little too thin for a divot. I think it would work fine on the standard size Becker micarta scales — and I might even try that myself — but I wouldn't put a divot in the BK-11.

You're one of the more experienced woodsmen around here, John, so I know you can whip up a bearing block pretty quickly from what you find around you in the woods.

Just my thoughts. YMMV.

THanks for the compliment... I;ve whipped up a few bearing blocks in my day..but it;s hard to find something as frictionless as a synthetic.

You're absolutely right: synthetics have a lot less friction than wood. Synthetics like Delrin or Teflon have a very low coefficient of friction, and would work pretty well as a bearing block.

I have an idea for that and, if it works, I'll send you one to try out. It may take me awhile, though, since I have a lot on my plate at the moment.

SOunds good, I look forward to it as a positive eventuality.. Thanks for thinking of me.

It'll be useful for more than just as a bearing block. Actually, while important, the bearing block would be of secondary importance.

I know that, unlike an old fogy like me, you get out enough to actually give it some use.

It's not something that will change the world, but it could make life a little easier for a lot of us.

Hey Rescue....

Thanks for the photos.....Imho good choices on the mini "KIT".....I always leave the house with a decent small LED light, a micro light, a Victorinox Rucksack, lighter and if I go further afield than the shop I have an old key card with duct tape and 65 lb braided dacron wrapped around it........

Thanks again.......

All Best....
