I'm on the search for 3 fixed blades for 3 different tasks and would like some good recommendations for each.

1. I'm looking for a good 3.5 - 5 inch knife to be a companion to my recently purchased chopper, a Busse ASH 2. Id post pics but it doesnt get here till Thursday.

Was looking at some knives likes the esee 4/5, the becker bk16/bk2, TOPS BoB, GSO 4.1 / GSO 5.1 and also checked out a few of the fallkniven offerings.

price limit is about $300 to $350 for this one.

2. Looking for a good scandi grind bushcraft knife for smaller tasks with more intricate carving, no batoning or hard use on it really.

Have been checking out the mora bushcraft black, looks like an awesome deal for the $35ish asking price. Also looking at a bunch of different puukko style knives.
Price limit is about $200 for this one but for that much i could get so many moras lol.

3. Finally im trying to find a good fixed blade edc. Was looking at the tops 3" scandi and scandi trekker. Also looked at the spartan blades enyo but the price doesnt seem justifiable on that one.

looking to spend about $200 tops on this one.

So...help me out here. Ive been looking around as much as i can and reading and watching reviews as much as i can but im still undecided on all 3 categories.

Thanks for any input.

Also im not opposed to any custom made knives but dont know much about any of them so i have no idea where to start.

Look at the knifemaker's market fixed blades for sale here. Might find something rolling in soon. Seems like there is always something.

#1 im just looking for something like a do all type knife, something good at most tasks, not great at any particular one, something with a little more control than a 9" blade. Doesnt have to chop amazingly, thats why i got that busse and have a few gransfors axes as well.

2. yeah im really leaning to the bushcraft black currently, it may not be pretty but from what ive seen its pretty good at what it was intended for.

3. was checking out the izula 2, looks nice and for a decent price.

For your edc, I was looking at an izula 2, but went with a becker bk14, tkc g10 scales, and an azwelke kydex sheath for 100 bucks all said and done

for the 1st. knife choice i'd check out Jack Oneill he's a maker, and member here. i have two of his Tantos a big one, and a small one.
Yet, have seen other more standard blades he makes . He's a good guy imho, quality, price, and function on his knives will suit any serious buyer imho.

For question 1 I have no problem with any of your ideas. I do think the ESEE 5 might be more than you need or want in this department but I would not rule it out. The ESEE 4 and Tops Bob Knives are great. If you have big hands I would probably go with the Tops Bob. If not then it really is a toss up. I would like to recommend the Fiddleback Forge production Kephart and Duke. I have used both of these knives and have been blown away by the ability of the S35 steel on them. They are both well with in your budget.

Question 2 I found myself struggling a little bit with. You make a good point with the Mora and I honestly never use a scandi knife. I can say that LT Wright and Fiddleback (on the custom side) make incredible scandi knives. You might want to look in to some of them!

Question 3 I think you will hear a lot of people suggest the Izula II. Great suggestion and I love the knife. I thought I would add a few more. The White River Knives Caper is a fantastic everyday carry fixed blade. It fits the pocket well, has multiple carry options and is very comfortable in the hand. The other suggestion would be the Fletcher Knives Pocket Kilo II. The pocket kilo II carries great but has a more robust handle than most other knives its size. You are using it as a smaller knife but in the hand you don't know it.

It is very late here on the East Coast so I am going to call it a night. I am sure I will think of other suggestions tomorrow. When I do I will add them up.

Good luck in your three knife journey!

I really like my Bradford Guardian3 fixed blade. 3 1/2" blade; 3" sharpened; finger choil.
Mine is in M390 but 3V is also a great choice and available. About $160.
Carries on my belt in a horizontal sheath, and I never know it's there. Further, it does NOT print thru my loose t-shirt.

BRKT make some very well designed small knives.
I have a PSK, Bravo knecker & mini Canadian. I like all 3 for different reasons. They make good EDC, but that means different things to different people.

Just a thought, for no.1 I say get a Fiddleback or a Big Chris Knife, #2 sounds you have a good one with a Mora,#3 I say check out JK knives. Let us know your thoughts.

I'm not understanding the differences between your first two use cases, particularly since you have a big chopper.

I would think that there are scads of fixed blades that would cover both just fine. Get something with the following..
+ Blade in the 4" to 5" range
+ Comparatively thin blade stock (compared to your chopper)
+ Convexed sabre grind (or if you must, a scandi grind)
+ Full length blade up to the tang and minimal to no guard for fine carving

Mora, Condor on the low end. Bark River on the higher end.

If the difference that you're thinking of here is that you want a super thick blade stock knife, I would recommend picking up something used as cheap as you can live with yourself with. A thick big chopper makes sense to me if you're into that sort of tool, but a short 5" or less thick blade makes less sense to me. Sort of the worst of both ends of the spectrum, like a pick up with low profile tires or a Ford Mustang with mud runners.

Fiddleback Forge makes knives that fit all three of your categories, if you so choose to browse their stock. They also have a subforum here that has a flea market where you can get lightly used knives for a great price.

1- You could pair your ASH2 with one of the smaller, thinner Busses, like a cultilus or mean street variant. Same bulletproof warranty. You'll have to keep an eye on the exchange or wait for O2W to restart and hope for the best if you go this route.

2- Whichever Mora model speaks to you. They're an inexpensive way to find out what you like and what you'd change in a scandi grind bushcraft blade. You can always upgrade after you figure that out.

3- Tons of options, including ones that will fill one or both of your other categories. It all depends on what you need and want in an edc.

As for #2, if you're planning to do only a lot of carving with it, I'd suggest you to take a look at YP-Taonta puukkos as well. Nothing similar to the Mora Bushcraft Black, but the rhombic section is really a league on itself for wood working.
