I just picked up a vintage 8ot off of ebay ($15.50 - a steal of a deal if I do say so myself). The knife is unused and in perfect condition but does not have a box. I'd prefer a box that matches the vintage of the knife.
Front side of tang has:
Schrade
Walden
N.Y. U.S.A
Back side of tang has:
8OT
The nail nick on the clip blade is the "matchstrike" style instead of the straight smooth style that was produced later. Also, the back side of the clip has a contoured/beveled edge that starts about 3/4" from the hinge and runs to the point. The blades appear more polished than the standard 1095 steel, so I'm wondering if they are stainless.
Given that the 8OT was produced between 1959-2004, and the tang markings are in the years of 1946-1974, it seems logical that this knife was produced between 1959-1974.
I don't know what a box of this vintage would look like, but I'm guessing it would be light and dark brown with the red schrade stripe?
If anybody has a box that would match this vintage knife, please email ted@thegamblefamily.net
Thanks.
