A couple of weeks ago I found some vintage buck knives at a gun dealer and posted some questions. Well, now I have some more. I bought four 112s and have some questions. Two of them are two dots, but the rivet heads on one of them are smaller. Neither has a nail nick on the blade. Do either of these features help me with dating these knives? The other two knives have three dots, one before "112" and two after. They have finger groove handles. Do these have 425 steel blades ? Are they relatively rare ?

Thanks again for your help.

PS - The owner of the store is looking to sell the Buck display case. It has (from the bottom up) a drawer, two door cabinet, and a revolving, plexy glass display area. He is looking for $400 for it. If anyone is interested, let me know.

two dots and three dots are 440 c steel.the two dots were made between1974-1980.
the three dots 1980 -1981? according to my 2002 newsletter.

Any chance you could post a pic of the FG 112's? I'd appreciate a look at them, if you don't mind. Thanks :)

Got it, thanks! I wasn't aware some 3-dots had nail nicks, glad you showed me.

Old Smith, looks like the finger groove three dots 112's were the last 440c 112's made so I would say they're relatively rare.
you certainly made a one in a million find getting four 440c at once.
did they also have boxes and papers.
