So, there's some story to this, beware.
There is a summary at the bottom
I've kinda become a knife guy. Interested in steels and design, function and technique, etc. I started eh, 8 or so years ago. Bought a Kershaw leek from a local shop. And it was 'my knife' The only one I owned other than my boy scout Swiss army knife. Loved it, it had a clip on it! New to me. A friend shortly after got a benchmade, and I had a reputation among my circle of friends as having a knife what came in useful often, and being able to put an edge on a knife. (point of pride, by the way, still can do a mean edge
) I offered to repair his, after it was used it as a prybar and broke the tip. This of course, created a monster. Steel was different, different to sharpen and grind, opening was different, assisted vs fast pivot... This combined with a me losing my knife a few months later (had it stolen actually. I was at work and sat it down and looked away, then gone.)
That's when it started. I needed a new knife. I got one 'like' what I had, but slightly different. The downward spiral continued. I got 2 leeks first, started reading about steel. Got a bump (kershaw hasn't done me wrong, so I was still getting them) Then a Griptilian. This led me expanding my understand of knives. Then among the last real purchases (maybe bought about 6 knives in the course of 3 months) was a spyderco.
The endura in ZDP 189. I only own one spyderco knife. The endura 4 in ZDP 189. And it has dominated. It's my #1 carry for work. Love the steel and not having to sharpen it as much. (lots of cardboard cutting) it was my first 'design' knife. Big mistake. Let me explain. I've gotten a few blades since then. I got a benchmade 740. Very light weights, and I use it for when I want something less, and I've gotten a Cyclone since then, due to the generosity of a patron. And a folder... But everything I get, has a position to fill... I STILL go back to that Endura. It's still my best EDC knife.
Okay. Some more philosophy. A company called powermatic made woodworking equipment. A few cuts above for the same price. But these machines lasted for damn near ever with no need for service. 15 years later, powermatic is out of business. No repeat business. One good table saw is enough for a cabinet shop. However, it's competitors with a 5 year product had sold three times the product and were still in business.
QUICK SUMMARY OF THE ABOVE STORY:
I think I owe spyderco another purchases of a knife. What one?
