Hey,

I am looking for a new carry knife. I currently carry a CRKT M16 SF. I like the Dark operations knives and the new CRKT M21 I just may carry both. My one friend reccomened I get a S&W neck knife to wear sometimes and a card knife that goes in your wallet. He said the S&W's have great sheaths?
In plain cloths I carry a 1911, 2 mags, and a sure fire flash light.

Anybody ever wear a neck knife ontop of body armor? In uniform I would prefer to only have one knife exposed for retention purposes which is usually on my weak side AKA CRKT M 16 SF.

Thanks

P.S. If it helps I qualify for LEO only items and no I am not a security guard lol.

Is price an issue? What will these be use for? My 2 buddies that are cops only carries Delicas, and they say that they hardly ever use it.

I would stay away from dark ops and go more towards MOD knives and Microtech. These knives are much more "the real deal."

I plan on only using this as a self defense weapon. Money is not really an issue. I really like the CRKT 16 Special forces how does the dark ops and M21 compare? Thanks

Please don't buy a Dark Ops knife. Look at Spyderco and Benchmade as a good place to start.

I carry a Wharcom in the trauma plate pocket of my vest in lieu of a necker. It is easier to get to and more comfortable. I have carried an M16-14t in the past and finally retired it to the drawer. Now my EDC for work is a Boker Trance. Do a search here on the forums for dark ops, or dork ops, either will work.

Dark Ops began as overpriced ripoffs of another company's designs. They continue to embarrass the knife industry with their juvenile advertising.

CRKT will sell you reliable knives for very reasonable prices. Any of their Kit Carson folders are good. I like the M21 even better than the M16 series. Check out his new M4. This one is going to be a real winner.

I would avoid anything by S&W, unless you know for a fact that a particular model is OK. Their quality control is unreliable -- one knife model works, another is junk. The S&W necker with the hooked blade isn't bad as a last-ditch backup.

A card knife will go in your wallet and stay there. Waste of money. If you carry any other knife, you'll never go for the wallet card.

Anyway, welcome to Bladeforums! I hope we can help you find a good one. Check out our Practical Tactical forum, also. A lot of LEOs with good professional advice there.

Please DO NOT buy a Dork Ops knife.

Welcome to BF Hammer 45!! There are plenty of good quality knives. May I suggest a Spyderco Military. DO check out Spyderco knives. May I also suggest checking out Emerson knives as well. What about attaching knife to your ballistic vest? Like attaching a Kydex sheath & velcro? I know that there are gun holsters that attach to ballistic vests.

I have a spyderco police knife that is pretty slim. I wear a second chance 3A with a trauma plate holder maybe I can clip it to that.

I agree completely with the above. The M16 series is good, but the M21 is better. The M4 should be the best of the line yet, and I too am looking forward to it.

I have a Spyderco endura with a lanyard that I carry at work. I tuck it between me and the duty belt behind my gun. That way folks don't notice the lanyard hanging out of my pocket and think wouldn't it be fun to see if I could snatch that. :grumpy:

I got a K4 Karda from Dan that I was considering wearing under the vest with the neck sheath but I just couldn't get used to it. Attaching a sheath to the back of the front panels with velcro is probably a much better solution.

Before I got into law enforcement I went on a ride-along with a Sacramento Police officer that wore a full tanto under his vest. One of the big cold steel models (I think) with at least a six inch blade.

If you are set on CRKT then you should check out the M1 lightfoot excellent knife for the money. You won't be disappointed.
