When I was born my grandfather bought me a Case Stockman. When I turned 13 he gave me that knife. I still have it to this day and I'll cherish it forever. In July I'm becoming a father for the first time and want to get my son a knife built in his birth year. I know Case dates their knives so are there any dealers that will honor a request to ship me a knife specifically built this year and not just whatever happened to be collecting dust on the shelf for the last 2 years?

Why don't you contact case directly and ask them? Knife companies love stories like this! For example, Chris Reeve made sure I got a knife with the exact date of my marriage, and Chris even signed the box for me!
Best of luck on your search:thumbup:

You might consider buying a new pattern/offering like the Bose teardrop as it just came out this year so you know it would be a 2014. Or, if you can afford to splurge, you might consider this year's Case/Bose collaboration when it comes out later this year (believe it's going to be a lockback whittler). Best of luck with the knife hunt and more importantly with he upcoming birth of your son!

K-pag, The cool thing about the new Case/Bose Tear Drop pattern is that it was introduced the same year that your son is to be born - very cool idea by the way - congratulations! OH

I would just write Case a letter asking about getting a knife that they have or will build this July. The boxes already come stamped with born on date, so there's a chance (you do have a month's head's up) to maybe get a knife with month, day, and year representing your son's complete birthday. It would help if you have decided on a pattern and see what they can do for you. I personally have found quite accommodating several times in the past with doable requests.;)

Congratulations!

I did the same thing when my son was born--bought a yellow CV peanut with his initials engraved on the bolster. I don't know if the vendor I used is a sponsor, so I'll check before posting their name. But, they were able get the year, but no luck with the date. I wrote several vendors requesting that they check their stock and some (but few) replied. That helped narrow down my choice of vendor.

Recently, I wrote Case directly asking if they could give me a list of patterns that were produced on his birthday (since it was two years ago, they didn't have any stock from then) so that I could at least narrow my search in tracking down something made on that date. They said they had no such records. C'est la vie.

Congrats indeed! This knife is probably the most special to me as it was bought and is the same year that my wife and I were married. It is dated 2012 and was bought in April or March at the big gun show here in Dallas. This Case Sowbelly in harvest orange corncob jigged bone (pictured with my stainless damascus wedding band) was carried with me the two weeks we were in Maui staying on a best friends property, enjoying our adventure/wedding/honeymoon and has been some of the most spectacular places I have ever been. This well loved and used knife should probably be retired and carried only on special occasions but I cant help myself. I might should pick one up in chestnut bone so I can try to keep it from more use and wear. I think knives for knife peoples is a great way to commemorate an occasion.

I know something about this very thing. The dealer I used is the largest case dealer, but not a bladeforums sponsor. I will email you in the morning.

I bought my daughter a knife from this dealer and I was able to get a case peanut made on the actual day of her birth, ti be given to her on the day she's married.

Love the story and the idea. Congratulations on your new addition to the family.

Good to know. I didn't have any idea that this was a thing. How does one going about getting access to those knives?

Great suggestion! +1 for the teardrop
