I want to have a cutting competition knife made overseas and I'm looking for an effective design. I'm happy to get the maker involved in the production process and I'm flexible in terms of royalty payments. I'm also happy to help promote the maker's brand in the process. The production cycle takes several months and I'd like to have something to sell next Spring. I think the market is ready for an affordable competition knife and my design skills aren't very impressive.

If you are a custom maker with a good design or willing to do a design, please let me know either by posting contact information here or by PM, if that feature exists here. Thanks.

I would suggest going to a couple shows where the competitions are being held and talk to some of the cometitors. You will probably get your best responses from them. Plus you'll get to see what the knives are expected to do and how they do it :) I think you're right though. Competition knives may be the next wave in knives. Always makes me happy to see performance based knives hitting the market.

EdgeOn,

I an assuming that you are interested in having your knife available to Cutters who want to compete in BladeSports International Competition. The ICCT was acquired by BladeSports this year and is now the major producer of Cutting Competitions.

For a Knife to be certified and allowed for competition there are a few requirements.

· The knife must be designed by an active, certified Knifemaker/Member of BladeSports. (To be a Knifemaker/Member you must derive a portion of your income from the sale of custom knives.)
· You or your Knife Company must be a Corporate Sponsor of BladeSports. (Cost $900 per year. There are additional benefits to sponsorship such as cutter sponsorship, signage at competitions, website profile, etc.)
· BladeSports design parameters must be followed in regard to safety and size.
· 2 samples must be sent to BladeSports officials for testing prior to certification. 1 of these must be without a handle so hardness testing can be performed on the tang.

There is additional information available on the BladeSports website www.bladesports.org or you can contact any of the directors who are listed on the site for additional information.
