Need a couple things, looking to trade for them...

I am hoping this can stay in here because it's really specialized for the survival forum and it's going to go nowhere if it gets moved to the trade forum.

I am looking for a couple/few heavy duty sewing needles like EZE-Awls that have the eye right behind the point.

I am also looking for extra sized bobbins that are about one inch diameter and 3/8ths thick, preferably aluminum but I will take steel in a pinch. No regular sized, I can get them easy enough, that's why I'm asking here.

I'm really tired of being told I have to have PayPal for everything, I can't stand the thought of collapsing into that beast. If anyone has this stuff lying around, I'll trade you some stuff for it. I have extra mag/ferro rods and other, interesting things in this vein as well.

TIA, CIAO...

Sorry Don, if I had any of those items I'm sure I'd be happy to donate them to your cause. In the interest of preserving this thread in W&SS, what uses do you see for the extra sized bobbins? Is it for fishing line or some kind of cordage? How large and how much material do you want to pack onto one?

I was going to wind up medium and heavy nylon braided line from USGI Survival (Fishing) Kits on a couple of them and heavy duty sewing thread on another and then waxed thread for extreme stuff on yet another. I have some smaller bobbins and the way I rig these things up is, I go to Auto-Zone and get small hose clamps and once I wind whatever thread/line/cordage onto the bobbin, I spread the hose clamp, place it over the bobbin, then tighten it down. That way I also have frog and fish gig hardware (hoseclamps) that don't take up extra space, etc. Plus, line and thread is always easier to manage with a bobbin or some type of reel.

The awls would go with the other heavy duty sewing materials I have as well.

i like your use of the hose clamps on the bobbins.

I dont have anything like what your looking for though, sorry....

maybe an industrial sewing supply place might carry the big bobbins, but again they would want $$ for them...

I don't have a problem buying them, they are on E-bay right now. I don't want PayPal and everyone is whining that E-bay is MAKING them use PayPal. If there is a company out there, I don't particularly want to buy a metric shitload of them, either. A half dozen would be nice! :D

Mike,

Thanks a lot! I don't know if the bobbins/spools are as large as I was hunting for but they are probably larger than a standard bobbin!

I bought my EZ Awls at the local local hardware store around here. I think it is an Ace Hardware.

I tried Wal-Mart, a hobby store that generally carries such things and actually did try an ACE and none of them had any such thing.

I've got some needles, but I can't see them being as useful w/o the awl handle. they are heavy duty for sure, but when sewing heavy material a little force behind it goes a long way. The one I prefer over the awlfor all is called the Speedy Stitcher, keeps the thread in the handle rather than in front (I own one of each) both are fairly inexpensive. Speedy Sticher goes for around $11. If you would like just the needles (2 sizes) e-mail me.

Just a heads up for the paypal haters.............
If you request that a buyer use the "personal tab" to send money, there are no fee's. The default Paypal box for sending funds is the goods/services etc. box which they charge you for on the recieving end. At the top of that default box are two tabs. One says "Personal". Click that, then enter the amount to send and the recipient is PP fee free. I think it's for sending money to family or friends fee free.

Those items you speak of should be available at a local fabric or hobby shop. Have you tried there before Ebay?

Yeah, I said that up above. :D

They should be and they used to be, but they are not for whatever reason. I would rather walk into a store and just purchase them instead of going through this mess. They had a JoAnne's Fabrics around here and I tried that as well. They also had two privately owned fabric/sewing/knitting stores around here, no go.

here you go Don, and there is room inside to store stuff (be it a fishing kit, sewing kit, etc).

I call these "Bomb-lettes" :D 2.5" long x 1" diameter pvc schedule 40 pipe connector, and two end caps. The one with the green 20LB test braid fishing line has over 100' wrapped on it. Cost me about $4 CDN.
