I have a $75 budget for a work knife. I work for an armored car company and need a knife that's going to stay sharp... I want/really like the RAT folders, but I'm thinking maybe a spyderco. I've wanted a RAT for a while and I'm using work for an excuse to get a new knife, should I just buy it?

Everything is very simple. If you want RAT, than get RAT. If you want knife for $75 to stay sharp for a while get Delica4 or Endura4 with ZDP189 blade. It is up to you.
good luck.

Either the RAT or the endura in all its variations are excellent knives. Endura wins as far as steel and its lighter. The RAT has a very comfortable handle and AUS-8 is very easy to sharpen IMO.

As a Boy Scout, a Spyderco is all I've carried. Check out the D'Allara 2---the drop point configured model. I highly recommend this blade. It's inexpensive (it can be found for as cheap as $55), has great FRN handles, a wire pocket clip that works great, a strong ball bearing lock, and a good, corrosion resistance, edge-holding VG10 blade. It comes WICKED sharp out of the box and is easy to keep that sharp with barely any maintenance. It's one of the less-commonly-spoken-of knives in the Spyderco line. Also, check out the ATR stainless steel, Police, or the Endura (I recommend either the quick-opening Emerson Wave version or the supersteel ZDP-189 variant). Hope I helped. God bless you, America, and our men and women over seas.

KATN, as always,

Wade

Second thoughts. $40 Native at walmart is a great deal. 3" s30v blade + great ergo, but if you want to spend $75 you can get Caly3 at the auction site.
Caly3 with 3" VG10 full flat ground blade and G10 handle can do everything what all knives mensioned above plus it win beauty contest. Also for this money you can get R2 (at savson or sooner state) 3.5" VG10 full flat grind blade and almite handle. It is very good cutter I carry it for couple month and very happy with it.
Also R2 is limitted run. Native, Caly3 and R2 all have finger choil, which is very handy for precision cuts.
Good luck

The RAT folder is going to be discontinued, so pick one up while you can. You can always get a Spydie later.

You don't need the latest & greatest supersteel, either, for the latest & greatest highest prices. Spyderco VG-10 and S30V are excellent steels that will hold up just fine.

Well, I think I will get a RAT cause I've always wanted one. A caly3 might get picked up as well...

For some reason, my walmart doesn't carry the Native or any spydies... Wish it did though.

Even if your walmart doesn't carry Native, you can buy it on their web site and pick up at store.
