I have a friend at work in the market for a Bowie for show as in Single Action Shooters Society. Any production Bowie style knife you guys could recommend that looks "frontier" under say $100 will be gladly considered. Thanks fellas. kevin

I have a Winchester Bowie that I bought at "Big 5" that was on sale for $30 that is just what your friend is looking for.

I'd think something like a Old Hickory butcher knife would make a rustic, frontier looking, and inexpensive "Bowie".

A couple months ago, Backwoodsman magazine had a fun little article involving DIY transforming a Tramontina machete into a Bowie, by grinding a clip point and soldering on a brass guard. If you gotta have the biggest, frontieriest Bowie knife there.

I love the description of that knife that Cabela's is selling, "This 14" knife is patterned after Jim Bowie's famous blade." No it's not.

Check out www.sheffieldknives.co.uk for some nice traditional looking frontier bowies. The 6" model is in your price range.
I think bowies with aluminium pommels look wrong if your after the wild west style. Hard to beat a good crown headed stag bowie for the 'cowboy' look.
CAS Iberia do some although I don't think they do them in carbon, just stainless.
Again, I think you need carbon steel, which will develop a nice patina, to achieve the right period look.

Sorry, when I said Cas Iberia I really meant Muela.

Take a look at the Paul Chen Hanwei Forge Bowies at the attached link. I hsve a couple and they are very well made. I am using this link as it shows them all together in one place, but you can find them for about $20 less if you look around.

A bit over your price range, and nowhere near as fierce looking, but way more authentic, is the knife found here.
