I'm looking for a decent pocket knife for less than $30, preferably around $25. I already have an edc knife, so I was kind of looking at more tactical blades, but it doesn't have to be. I was considering the kershaw tremor, kabar dozier folding hunter, kershaw nerve, or CRKT hammond cruiser. I have a couple things I care about in a knife: edge retention (decent steel to hold edge) and blade lockup (no blade play). Does anyone have any recommendations on any of the knives I was looking at or any others in my price range?

If you're looking for a "tactical" knife, this is the wrong subforum. Here we discuss old-style, traditional knives like your grandfather carried.

Hammond cruiser is good but kinda bulky and has a chisel grind. Don't know about the others but for a 30$ folder the ontario rat-1 is hard to beat. You might want to check the oso sweet by kershaw too.

If you landed on this sub-forum maybe it was destiny so....
Sell some of your tacticals and try carrying a beautiful traditional for a while, a lot of people changed their minds by doing it.
see you my friend

What are some traditional knives that you would recommend?

Try an Opinel #8, Case Sodbuster Jr (as mentioned upthread), a Svord Peasant.
Might turn you off of tacticals...

I don't think you could go wrong with a stockman, three blades to choose from in one rugged package, and you could always pair it up with one of your tacticals, once you try carbon steel, it's hard to use anything else.

Hi,
I was buying spydercos, paramilitary 2, delica 4 ffgo, in a very short period for my habbits. But there was something that not fullfeel my needs completely, i didn't know what was it. Then i found this subforum and ask this, see what people, much more experience with traditionals, answered me.
at the end I bought a boker barlow for 25$ or so on the auction site, and I fell in love with the philosophy of this knives.
take a view and hope it helps you.

How about a SAK?
You can get an Alox Soldier on Amazon for about 26.00 (shipped).
Pretty hard to find anything that isn't ChinaLand crap for that price these days.
I mean,,, if a Swiss "Army" Knife doesn't bridge the gap between Tacticool and Traditional, I don't what does?
Charlie

Kershaw and spyderco make some great knives you might need to go over your budget but they will fit the bill.
