I've been getting mine from Ironwood by Don for awhile but, he hasn't been getting much in lately. He had really nice wood that you could choose from right on his site, that also didn't break the old bank book. Any suggestions?

J. I don't know what your wanting for sure, but I got 3 exhibition grade select 2 from TKS and it is beautiful, they've got a select 1 thats $10 cheaper and then a plainer handle for $15. thats all I know

J I've never bought anything from this guy but he sure has some nice wood. There's a big - BIG - beautiful piece of ironwood right up front. You'd have to do your own resawing though.

I've bought a lot of wood from Cook Woods, who sell on eBay. They are great to deal with. Again, you'll do your own resawing. But handles are much cheaper (and you know how that affects my own decision making) that way. I haven't bought precut handle material in a very long time. ;)

Good luck!

There's a picture of each block on the site so you see what you're buying. The top grade stuff is expensive, but there are lower grade and unfinished blocks as well. The unfinished are supposed to be in one of the two lower grades but cost less -- I've got two pairs of the unfinished scales that look promising but I'm still going through some other ironwood I got on ebay.

Hey J. Did you ever get and do anything with your idea for a dagger with the bamboo handle?

I buy stabilized from the Lumberlady, and I have never dealt with any better! She is a real sweetheart, and if she doesn't have what you want, she will get it. I've never had a problem with her wood and she is quick to ship, too.

Thanks for all the tips fellas.

Nowicki- Nope, haven't gotten to that one yet. It usually takes awhile for the ideas to work their way out of my thick skull completely.

Do you still need a piece of bamboo?

There is "A" ironwood that grows in the swamp here. I dont know if its the same as you need, but FWIW, It is not a huge tree(biggest trunks are around 1.5, maybe 2 ft. They are not tall trees but are bent and somewhat knarled. The trunks are not smoothe around the circumference, but are undulating and the wood is as hard as .....well..iron. It is also not a native species. Are you interrested in it green??
