Hey All,
A friend of mine just bought the Buck Mentor I had for sale and we spent about 30 seconds removing the rubber handle with a sharp bread knife. (See picture below)
We (he) are (is) looking for a black Micarta replacement handle for this knife. Based upon the tang shape and guestimated measurements, what do you feel the cost of this project would be? What ideas would you have for the hande design? Fully enlosed or tang back exposed? Finger grooves or a single index notch? He is also trying to come up with some designs of his own.
I (we) appreciate the time and thought you give this.

Well, when you consider most makers will charge $30-40 an hour plus the materials, I'd bet your friend could buy a new knife cheaper than what most of us would charge him. Has he considered doing it himself??? Not too difficult really. Pick up Step By Step Knifemaking by David Boye for $10 and a piece of linen micarta, item #MI702,from Jantz Supply, 18003518900, for $8.95 plus some Devcon epoxy, item #DVE5 for $2.99, plus $6.95 shipping. Comes out to alot less than having a maker do it and he'll have the satisfaction of doing it himself. Just something to consider. Take care! Michael

Well, guys, if you don't need it by tomorrow, or some similarly immediate time frame, I'll do it for free, if you want to provide the materials and pay shipping. I can probably have it done for you within a month or so. I have a couple of other projects that I'm just finishing up, and I'm in a bit of a lull right now. Interesting looking blade...

I can send you a couple of pics of other pieces I've done, if you'd like reference, or drop me a line if you want to discuss it a little further.

Hey, the price is right, neh?

Kalindras,
Let me forward your post and ask him if he's interested. I might try a little extra to convince him since you are a fellow Texan!

Thanks again!
