Well, I have realized that I'm a jack knife guy. I have long thought that I would like a pen knife to be my first brand new EDC, even going as far as to vet them down to the GEC White Owl.

Now however, I've noticed I've sold or given away all my pens. I tried a canoe, didn't like it. I tried a Hammer Brand cracked ice pen and hated it.

Looking at all of my regular carry knives, they are all jacks; peanut, Imperial EO, TL-29 (kind of a jack), and now this equal end Imperial Hammer Brand jack, which I LOVE.

So, I guess I'm a jack man. Now, I need recommendations on a new jack. I like small-medium knives. Small stockman, my hammer brand jack, the white owl size, those sizes are perfect for an EDC for me.

I saw the Case amber bone small Texas jack in CV, which I am considering heavily. What others should I be looking at? Please help this new convert! :D

From what i could gather, and my experience, it will need some re beveling, or at least some serious sharpening, but once there, will keep an edge like no other. A very good size to edc, beautiful too.

I've been looking at the Queen Heritage series jacks for some time now. They have that straight-forward vintage look thats so appealing.

I like that Queen that was shown, although mine had a very blunt tip on the Pen blade....

How about a GEC 56 ? I like the Barehead ones with Spear but there are 2 bolster models with Clip master too.

The GEC 66 is also a decent carry, the new 76 Outlaw could be good too. You've got a wealth of more options no doubt, hope these help.

Regards, Will

I'd go with the Case small Texas Jack in amber bone and CV in a heartbeat.

I've fallen for the amber bone that Case does, and with the CV you'll get a nice contrast when the patina builds up. Just a classic looking pocket knife. And I like Case CV, it's easy to touchup anywhere while holding a good enough edge for most uses.

If you like the small Texas jack you may want to look around for an older model 6232 (3.5625" closed). Mine is from 1978, and it is one of my favorites.

There is also the slightly smaller (3.375" closed) current production 22087 Texas jack in black delrin and SS blades.

Don't forget about the Schrade USA 33OT. It's a jack that's a small medium frame about 3 1/8" long.

I have to say, GEC's Outlaw jack caught my eye more than once, and I love my #66 (even though mine is a HJ).
These, or Case SBJ (I love mine).

Can't go wrong with the CASE CV Texas Jack ... lots of "good looking" jacks available. Pictures are not great - bone is actually lighter in color than this. Easy to carry and that smaller blade sure comes in handy for light chores.

I've been carrying my Northfield #56 jack for about a week now, and it's just great in both the pocket and the hand at 3-1/2" closed.

Another good one should be the new Outlaw jack from Northfield at the same 3-1/2" length.

GEC 66 serpentine jack. One BF dealer still has some in ebony. It's a perfect size and with incredible fit and finish.

+1 for the Schatt and Morgan Heritage series. It's not my normal style of carry knife but is perfect for going to church or when I need to dress up. Perfect of you like a medium sized jack.

Sorry Evans, didn't mean to make it a teaser- it's Mike at Collectorknives.Net

About midway down page 2 of the GEC pages.

Thanks for pointing it out Greg. The wood just isn't dark enough on that particular piece for me.

He has a Queen balloon jack that looks pretty neat though.
