Need a knife, but which one?

I want to buy a pocket knife with a clip. I want a smaller knife (3" or under) and the s30v steel. I would prefer the black blade and want to pay less than $200. Do any of you have a knife or may know of a knife that will fill that order?

If you know about a knife that would fit that criteria but NOT one you'd choose, I would like to know that also.

Last question. Many knife dealers out there. Can you recommend one that gives the best prices?

Your insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Couple of questions. First are you looking for closed length of 3" or blade length of 3"? Second do you want a lock? If you are looking for a blade length of 3" or smaller I would suggest the Spyderco UK pen knife. If size is not that critical, also look at the Spyderco Native. You might get better response in the general forum though.

You may want to ask this in "General", since this is the "traditional" room.

This probably isn't the best place to ask the question, as traditional blades tend not to have black coating, or even S30V, for that matter. If anything, you could pick up something in carbon steel and have it patina till it's practically black, but I'm thinking that a Spyderco Chicago might fit your needs a little better.

Spyderco UKPK Drop Point has S30v and is a slip Joint.

Not a black blade, but mine out of the box was scalpel sharp.

Definitely less than $200.

I just saw a Gerber S30v Freeman black blade folder (made in US, I think). A little bigger than some of the others mentioned, but definately within your guidelines. Check it out!

I think you ambled into the wrong sub-forum. This here is the land of good-old fashioned non-locking pocketknives with stag handles and carbon steel. :)

I wanted a folding knife and I wanted it to fit neatly in my front pocket. I am not stuck on a 3" blade length just didn't want a heavy big knife as I have several of those if I need one. I also am not stuck on the s30v steel but found that steel to be very good. I am not an expert on knife steel but want a blade that will hold up and easier to sharpen. I found a Benchmade mini dejavoo in a s30v that I really liked but took it back because the blade fit very loosely in the handle that it almost opened by it's own weight and I didn't want to slice my hand open by just reaching into my pocket. If I could lock that that blade when closed I'd still have it. I do want to be able to lock it open. I also was interested in the BM mini rukus but read it has a weak clip. First time on this web site and I apologize for being in the wrong sub forum but since I received several replies of good information I'll reply. I'll read more carefully next time. Thank you!!

Well, apparently you're in the wrong sub-Forum, however, if it can be a slip-joint, may I recommend the Spyderco Terzuola Slipit? I believe it's slimmer than the UKPK, not as short, but slimmer than the Urbans, too. It also has S30V steel & even CF scales &, gasp... a pocket clip, too.

Having said all that, I do have a Joe Allen Serpentine Jack with a S30V Wharncliffe blade (2.5"), however the 2nd blade's ATS-34.

If you're looking for something that you can put in your pocket, a slip-joint's hard to beat. Also, the typically thinner blades on slippies lend themselves to slicing better than the typical "modern" folder.

Good luck & welcome to BladeForums.
