I need an old EK re-handled.

The situation is this. My step dad has an old copy of Fighting Knives Magazine (summer of '98 I think) where in Kevin McClung had an article comparing several types of handle material. G-11 came out on top so now my dad wants his EK handled in G-11. I tracked down McClung about it. McClung basically told me no. So now I'm looking for a maker or customizer who can re-handle this EK for me in G-11 if possible. For some reason I get the feeling G-11 is a Mad Dog propriatary blend or something like that. If not G-11 I'm guessing G-10 would do just fine. Someone throw some names my way if you would or knife makers drop me a line and let me know if you'd be interested in taking on this project. Thanks

C

as a side note, I'm well aware that Mad Dog used to be a very hot topic in here. I'm not interested in anyones opinion of their work. I'm interested in getting an EK re-handled.

Think G11, like G10 is a manufacturers designation for an glass epoxy laminate product. Check out this webpage to see the similarities and differences (G11 appears to be more acid resist, for example). http://www.americanepoxy.com/material.htm
Of course finding it in a size and shape where it would be useful for knife handles might be another story.

Going with g-10 will be just fine! Even Micarta will be nice, and you'll get a nicer grain effect than you can with g-10. If I weren't so busy with my own projects, I'd help ya out. Try posting alink to this topic on Shop Talk, and maybe one of the "newbie" makers will help ya out. I'm a newbie maker, jut I'm just super busy :) Rehandling an EK shouldn't be much trouble.

Tom,

WOW! nice work man. You have mail. I'm still interested in anyone else that might like to tackle the project BTW.
