I'm looking for a large, strong utility folder that is good for outdoor work, and it's definitely going to be a spyderco. I've narrowed it down to a few:

Barong/Khukuri
Looks and feels great, gives a lot of cutting power.
Military
Classic large Spydie. Heard all the great reviews about it
Para-see above.
Manix 2-
The price of the M2 is a great draw for me, as I really don't need steels such as s90v or even s30v. I've heard a lot about the tough lock as well. I'm going to be getting the cheaper one (80 dollars).
Tenacious.
:D

recommendations welcome!

The Mili is hard to beat, but I prefer the Barong I just picked up recently because I like vg-10 more. Much easier for me to sharpen, but I haven't personally beat the crap out of either one.

I would lean towards the Manix-2. The tip is much more robust than that on the Military. And the price is right. The Military is great, but it wouldn't be the first knife I grabbed if I were planning on doing rough outdoor work. The Manix-2 is as tough as they come. If cost is a factor, the Endura-4 can take a beating as well.

+1 to what moonwilson said, you cant beat the M2 for the price. The Miltary is an awsome knife, but it's tip looks quiet a bit weaker then the M2's- cost's alot more too.
Just my 2 cents- keep in mind I own a Manix 2, but not a miltary.

The Manix 2 is nice, and you can't beat it for it's price, but the blade isn't as long as the Millie or the Police 3. I'm waiting for the 4"+ Manix 2 to come out. :D

No problem with my tip but I don't pry with folders anyway. You want go wrong with this one and it's real light to boot!

What do you mean by large? There's quite a difference in size in the models you listed. A millie is 4" (I think like 3.75" edge), while the barong and para's edges are ~3" and a khukuri has to be like 2.5". (And a tenacious is in between the millie and para.)

I bought a millie for the exact same purpose!
pretty happy with it. it is very light for its size.
and the tenacious seems a good choice since its so cheap, you won't be afraid of beating the damn thing! hahaha

Thumbs up for the Para, Endura 4, Tenacious, FFG G-10 Police. Military looks good as well, but, don't own one so I can recommend through reputation only.

Wasn't the khukuri and Barong both the same size as the millie? Eh I may have to go check the dealer again...
Gosh I forgot all about the Endura, especially now it's in G10 and FFG

The Tenacious isn't large but it's cheap and "whack"-able.

I suppose I will wait for a larger Manix 2 to come out before I make any decisions. Thanks everyone!

If you want something both long and strong, the 4" long 4mm thick Military would be top of the list. If length and slicing ability are more important than brute strength, then consider the Police 3 with its 4.375" X 3mm blade. If price is a factor, or there's much risk of loss or damage, the Endura might be a good choice and the Tenacious an even better one. It's a bit smaller, but it's a lot of knife for the money and the least expensive to replace.
