Need a leather accessory for my work bag.

I have a really good computer brief that is truly used for everything under the sun. The handles are leather wrapped but only individually without one of the leather wrap around grips some bags have included. Its normal weight is 18-19lbs fully loaded. So fequently when I go to use the handles and do not have a good grip one comes out of my hand (i.e. pulling down from overhead bin)

I'd like to have a leather worker (i.e. Kenny Rowe, etc...) make me a simple black leather wrap around with two nickel-silver snaps. Here's the slight problem. I'm deployed 100% of the time and can't go without the bag long enough to send to someone.

How hard do you think it would be for a person to make the wrap with only pictures and measurements? I can even take pictures with the ruler in them for reference.

Might just ask at a local shoe repair store. What you're asking for is just a piece of good leather with two snaps pressed into it. Most shoe repair stores can do such work, probably while you wait, and since you can take the bag in, it'll fit just right.

Oh, cool. I never thought a shoe repair would do that kind of stuff. There are two in our local mall, sounds like a good Sunday task :) Thanks for the suggestion..

If Michael Jackson can have an umbrella bearer, you can probably get someone to carry your briefcase.

Right, but Dark Nemesis is a Professional Skunk Slayer, not a freak and a pervert. :p

Do you teach your kids about sex, drugs, and alcohol? How about liberals? Don't let your kids become infected with the liberalism disease.

HA!

I saw a good bumpersticker a few months back...

"Leaving NC? GOOD, Take a liberal with you."

:D

Ok, this didn't work out today :) I went to both of the mall shoe repair shops and a family owned shoe repair business down the road. All three said it was not something they offered or would be willing to do. Actually the mall shops said it in very broken english...but they still got their point across, lol :)

I got a PM from someone saying he might be able to whip up something for me, will probably drop him an email.

Not a total waste of time, I did get some nice new shoe laces for my rockports :D

Think outside the box!

Do it your self with this cable wrap. It's 1" wide one side fixes "permanently" (think slip knot) to one handles and the free end warps around the other.

I think this would work just fine and nobody could sneek into your bag very stealthily.

The 1/2" ones are real popular for microphone cables so just about any musical instrument store should carry them. Plus the shorter cheaper ones you can cut to length. I think Lee Valley even sells, or sold, a similar item.

Wow! My guy would have done it in a heartbeat.

Well, it was worth a try anyway. Another option is to do it yourself. Again, it's a just a piece of leather with two snaps. The leather and the snap stuff can be purchased at a leathercraft supply store. The tool for putting the snaps in will probably run $35-50. But, by the time you look at the overall cost including shipping of having someone do this, it'll cost more. And you can aways sell the tool on eBay when you're done with it.

YOU get the leather, send it to me, and I will work on it and turn it around in one day. N/C for setting the snaps, but you send a prepaid envelope for the leather piece.

That should settle it. Just out of curiosity, have you checked REI? They have a lot of stuff like this. Try them first.

Lemme know.

Just as soon as DN emails me with the specs I will be making one for him. I have a design in mind that I'm sure he will like. :)
