Need a little advice for fixing up my spyderco paramilitary 2

So I have a few issues with my spyderco paramilitary 2 that I need to fix

First off, a knick in the blade, I think I can get this out by getting it sharpened, but I'm not sure if it is too deep or not, the pictures make it look smaller than it actually is, here they are, it's way up near the tip.

The second issue I am having is rust, I have some on the liner and on the stop pin. I am thinking about breaking the knife down and hopefully getting it off with maybe a wire brush or something and making sure I get it all, also these pictures make it a little hard to tell how it actually looks.

At first glance I would say:

#1 the blade nick looks like it could be removed by most any method of sharpening.

#2 you do need to take the knife apart. Go to YouTube and search for "disassembly of PM2." There are several, mostly in relation to putting on new scales.

As for rust...I would NOT use a wire brush. You need a good rust remover compound and a rag. Possibly some fine scotch brite from a hardware store.

There are some good YouTube videos on rust removal and other discussions in this section of BF. Search on the key word 'rust' here in the forum.

That nick will eventually sharpen out, and probably won't affect the use of the knife anyway.
I would work over that rust with a toothbrush and some kind of cleaning compound, maybe even toothpaste, without even taking the knife apart. Then wash it out well and douse it with WD40, then wipe it off and lube it with your favorite stuff.

Just got done taking it all apart and putting it back together.. it was a mighty pain in the... ya know... Disassembly was somewhat easy and I managed to clean up most of the rust. The only rust now is the stop pin, and I had to work with what I had and lets just say it didn't really do much, I used a toothbrush and some WD40. Then putting it back together, first I didn't use any lube so I had to take it back apart, and I sprayed it with some Rem oil that has teflon lubricant in it. Then I had to put it back together, only to have a stiff flick to it. So I pulled out every single screw one more time, and put thread locker on every single one and left them so they were only snug, not tight. Now she is wicked smooth, smoother than she was before. Flicks like a dream and cleaned up nicely. Also I tightened the clip up so it fits much better in my pocket.

Sounds like you did good my friend. I've taken down several PMs, changing the scales and cleaning/lube jobs. They are harder to put back together. I've had your exact experience with getting it so it would flip smooth. The PM is my favorite EDC and I am seldom without one.

Congrats on getting yours back in shape.

Now you can work on that blade nick.

I have one and do use it on some of my knives. I've also damaged a couple of knife blades and handles on the Worksharp.

Experiment on some cheap knives till you get the hang of how to use it.

I don't like the Work Sharp. I damaged quite a few of my blades on it. I would recommend taking the blade, and just the very tip, maybe the last 1/2 inch, take it and draw it edge on (I know, it sucks) to bring it down to the level of the nick and to bring the whole edge back to the same level, and sharpen it out. That'll both remove the nick and the damaged metal around it. That's what I did with my Mini griptilian and it worked a charm

Yeah I'll practice on a few kitchen knives first, maybe a butter knife, try to get it razor sharp :D Then try sharpening my pop's Buck knife that is wicked old, like 1980-90s, then I'll actually try the spydie

I'll give it a try, hopefully it won't be too hard to get out. It got there from letting my one of my buddies use it at the fire house one day. He thought it was a good idea to try to fix his visor on his helmet and needed a knife. I wasn't sure what he was going to do with it but anyway I got it back with a knick in the blade because I believe he tried to pry on something with the blade, which he never informed me of...
