I had the motor on my Power Hammer burn up the other day,It was a old antique one and the man at the motor shop said that it wasn't going to last long anyway.I just wasn't expecting it to happen so soon.
Here is my dilema.I am broke after Christmas and the lagging economy isn't helping the finances any.
Does anybody have a minumum f a 2 hoarse 1725 rpm motor they would be willing to do some trading on.
I will make a knife or some Damascus in trade for one if some one has a spare around the shop..
Thanks
Bruce

Thanks Laurence but a 3400 rpm motor just won't work on the 50 lb little giant power hammer..That is my problem..I could have gotten a few of the higher rpm motors from the scrap yard and lots of 3 phase motors but these darned 1725 motors in a 110 or 220 are murder to find.:(

Unless someone knows how to make a reducer to the speed and still keep the torque needed to run the hammer. The one I have has the clutch asembly in the center of the hammer and doesnt have the one off the back...

Rob,Sorry but no,I sure wish I was set up to use them as the scrap yard is full of them. But now It just wouldn't be feasable to try and switch..
Thanks,
Bruce

I have a sears 110 or 220 4 horse I pulled of of a compressor. I do not know what RPM it. I wil check.

Sorry to here 'bout your hammer Bruce, all I've got is a 3/4 Horse in 1750. Seems like I read that Little Gaint used something like 900 rpm motors.

You might be able to get the motor rewound.

Have you seen the Junk Yard Hammers on Anvil Fire? On one, it showes 2 fractional motors rigged together to make a full Horse. You might be able to do the same with two 1 horse motors?

Wow! The way people pull together to help eachother in the knifemaking community never ceases to amaze me. Bravo people, bravo!

Bruce I'd offer the spare motor I have but I don't think an old washing machine motor would do you any good. =) But it sounds like you're taken care of now. Chris Crawford and I spent another night in the shop last night working on a little folder. I'll post pics of it soon. You having another hammer-in any time soon? I sure hated I missed the last one. =)

Bruce, sorry man, it has bad bearings and may not be worth fixing. Maybe someone else has a better offer here.

Thanks Mike,I will check into them more if the one Mark has doesn't work out..
Thanks for the help everybody,Between this and having the check I sent out for my order of belts getting lost in the mail and the company hasn't got it yet so they won't send out the belts ,I am going crazy because I haven't really finished nothing lately the utility knife was the last thing i ground and didn't get it were I wanted because all my belts are dead and buried,I can't even grind a piece of bone now.
Boy am I going to stay in the shop and make up some knives when the belts get here,I can't wait..

...'70 LT1 Chevy 350ci bored .030 over, TRW 10.5/1 dome top piston's, pink rods, 4 bolt main's, forged crank, 327 .194 '67 vette fuelie heads, matched cam, 70 Z28 manifold, Holley 650 duel feed double pumper carb, high volume fuel/water/oil pumps, etc., etc., etc....

Best of luck Be, and to a good year ahead...

That would definately work,But I think It would go better in the 1954 panel truck I want to street rod out,if my finances would only allow such a endever..
