Hi Guys.
Looking to buy a new 400 grit, 40ish micron stone for my edge pro. I've only about a dozen knives I like to keep sharp. I'm not too worried about cost. I'm looking to play with toothy edges more. Sharpen with the new 400grit and a few passes with a balsa strop to remove any minor burr.

What's the thoughts on getting diamond vs SIC. Obviously diamond will be more costly.

I like the 400/1000 diamond plate that you can pick up in a few places. Amazon, CKTG, etc...

I prefer the Norton combination stone with coarse & fine SiC. It offers better economy, lasting a long time and will sharpen most steels just fine. Good luck, DM

Hi,
diamond or sic the knife doesn't care much :)

i see on ebay weird pricing deals for edge pro type stones

single alumox stone 400 mesh for US $1.61 or $1.69
single silicon carbide oil stone 400 mesh for US $3.41 or $3.99 or $5.98 or $8.40...
single diamond stone 400 mesh for US $4.59
a set of 7 silicon carbide stones for ~$9

single SiC stones are too thin at these prices
I'd would go for the diamond if buying one single stone ,
but I would go coarser, like 80 grit :) for reprofiling/regrinds
or maybe even 60 grit (Thin Double Sided Diamond Knife Sharpening Stone )

Is there something you find lacking in the Edge Pro stones? They make a pretty good product.

If you want to "play", take a look at Congress Tools... you can get a variety of stones to try out... and it's pretty easy to make blanks from an aluminum strip. Add a can of 3M-77 spray, and you're in business! :)

Unfortunately I don't have the stock stones. Yes I have looked at the congress tools options but the postage charge kills the efficiency as I'm in Australia.

I've actuality found a source for aftermarket edge pro stones out of Russia with cheap postage for sigma power select II stones.

I'm tempted to try the 240 & 400 in the sigma. Anyone used those on here?
