Need a new blade

I've had a 710 for 10 years for edc. But that's about it for high end knives for me.
I'd like to get a new benchmade but I'm kinda leaning toward another 710 in plain edge.
I have a partial serration now in black.
I keep looking and reading/watching reviews but I keep going back to the 710.
What's wrong with me and can you suggest something else?

Well, if you are interested in Benchmade and like a large blade, check out the Contego.

I second the Contego if you want another large, hard-work knife. It is larger in its profile, but it is made in M4 steel, which is a very tough steel with fantastic edge retention. The blade shape and grind also gives the knife serious toughness. It's one of the toughest knives made in its respective size and class, and the M4 steel is really good for this.

When you say blade replacement, you mean actually having the blade on your current 710 replaced, right? A 710 blade replacement will cost around $30 IIRC in the standard steels. Chances are your older one is either in ATS-34, 154CM, or M2. None of these are currently blades that Benchmade is replacing with the same steel. The 710 now is a D2 tool steel blade. Some like this more, some less (I fall into the less category).

Benchmade has also made limited runs of the 710 in M4 and M390 steels, which are really good performers. The downer is that they are out of production and can be expensive to buy new on the secondary market.

The 710 is THE Benchmade for me. I haven't had a Contego but I don't like the aggressive jimping in the liners or handles but I do dig the blade shape. The 710's handle is perfection in my hand.

Send your knife into BM and they will replace the blade for cheap and you can pick from plain/serrated/coated/non-coated.

I have the 710 in M2 and just recently in D2. I also have the Contego and another favorite, a Rift. The 710 fits my hand, like yourself, as if it were made for me. That said, the Contego is a knife I would take into hell and back if I had to take a folder. Two beautiful knives but two different designs. I would just get a new blade for your 710 as you already know what to expect and wait for something to catch your eye. You really can not go wrong with the 710.

Try to find one of the M390 710's that was a dealer exclusive if you can.....If you know you like the 710 then find an updated model.I know there is a Gold class 710 out there right now, but it's just a little on the pricy side.Just a little:(

I'm partial to the Contego myself. I like the 710 and think it a great knife bit given a choice I'd definitely go with a Contego. That or any version AFCK if you can find one at a reasonable price that you won't mind using.

x2. It's a crying shame they have gotten so hard to find and so expensive. :( What a timeless design and fantastic knife.

I know this is a dead horse but coming back to BM after ten years and the prices are significantly higher...
I know a custom knife maker who makes high quality stuff (and more beautiful) for much less.
Anyway, Spyderco looks like they want my money more than Benchmade.
I'm not spending gun money on a knife.

Buy here on the forums. There are some good folks who are selling for what they purchased for. 810 Contego's and 710's in various configurations pop up all the time at good prices.

I found 710 $135 from internet dealer NIB (Satin PE). I don't think you can buy any custom knife at this price.

As many others has stated, it is possible to buy LNIB Benchmade from forum members.

Besides, you know you can sell them if you don't like it with similar price.

I've got the hankerin' for an 810 myself. To the Exchange...

Thanks, I will check it out. I found the same price on a 710 and a decent price on a 940. So I'll stop complaining ;)
