I want to buy a cheap new toy to take with me on hikes. I own a lot of Mora knives, but would like something new. I love orange (as a bonus not a deciding factor), so if anyone has any suggestions I missed please let me know.

Which would serve me best for under $25?

Kershaw Antelope Hunter II Orange
BuckLite Max small/large Orange
Cold Steel Peacemaker III
Cold Steel Pendleton Lite

I'm leaning towards the BuckLite.

I like the Buck products and warranty.

Agreed. They do a fine job of backing up their product.

Second choice would be the Hultafors Craftsman with the Electricians knife piggybacked that KnifeCenter has. Under $25 and orange.

I agree on the Bucklite. Get the larger one And have fun with it.
Take pics and give us a long term, used it all summer review in the fall.
I bet it that is a great knife.

Or. A Cold Steel Finn bear. Drill a lanyard hole in it and add some orange paracord.
Finn bear is a heckuva knife for the money.

I've never heard of that Svord, but the only negatives I've found relate to the sheath. That's not a huge deal, but I'll have to research it a bit more.

Spend a little more and get a Becker or Kabar. Or maybe a Cold Steel G.I. Good knife for $19. I bought a BK15 for $35 shipped yesterday. That would make a great hiking knife. Or BK24, BK11. BK14,16,17.

I absolutely love Becker knives especially the BK16 and will be getting another.

I like to take cheap knives on hikes because they are easy to replace. I've never lost a knife in the wilderness and don't plan to anytime soon, but things happen. Maybe we stop for lunch and my better half goes into my bag and either forgets to put the knife she moved out of the way back in or forgets to zip it up all the way and it falls out. Heck, after hiking uphill half the day I may forget to zip my pack up all the way. That's why I tend to save my good knives for camping trips.

I love the Orange Mora Companion. I can't even remember how many I own, but great knives.

Of those you listed, I've been wanting to try a Peacemaker II. Most reviews I've seen are positive, aside from some folks not liking the sheath. That's nothing new to this niche - I hate Mora sheaths despite owning several - and not a deal-breaker in my opinion. Actually, the Mora Scout might be worth checking out, although a little small. The Cold Steel Finn Bear is interesting, I think, although I haven't really played with mine yet. A Mora of some kind always ends up in my hand.

Of those listed, +1 for Buck.

I know some folks like the Cold Steel Bushman knives. Those are right at $25. Not sure if the hollow handle would be appeal to you. On the plus side, you can spear a water buffalo if you need too.

I love the Finn Bear's shape, which is an echo of Tapio Wirkkala's puukko designed for Hackmann of Finland. Nice, nice knife, and inexpensive. The Pendleton Lite is my wife's garden knife: opens bags, cuts twine, does all kinds of outdoors and around-the-house tasks.

Both are excellent value, but both are orange-less. Try drilling lanyard holes and use orange paracord.

For $10 more, I'd get a Becker 14 or 15. You can Orange wrap the handle of the 14. Personally, I'd take a Mora over the others that you mentioned.

I'd think the bucklite would be pretty good out of that list. And add lone wolf mini landslide, while not a fixed, is nice to have on hikes.

I have not seen anyone mention the A G Russel made knives; they offer several different designs, sizes, & steel types that might fit your needs. The knives I've seen from them are ground with nice thin edges, are light, and have well thought out sheaths.

The hunter's scalpel is one possible example:

I watched a Youtube video yesterday where the guy showed a Cold Steel Finn Bear that had been in a salt bath for a month and it didn't corrode. For the price the Finn Bear, Roach Belly, and Pendleton seem like great values. How does the Peacemaker compare to those?

I now own a Roach Belly, Pendleton Lite, and a BuckLite that should be arriving today. The Finn Bear and Peacemaker are still on my list and I may have to decide between the two because they are starting to add up. I'll sure have a few options to choose from now :)

I've never heard of A G Russel and will have to look into them more. The one Youtube video I watched this morning showed the Hunter's Scalpel next to a Delica and it made the Spyderco look huge.
