Hello Fellas, I am looking into picking up a SpyderCo Caly 3, BenchMade Grip 550 or a Kershaw Leek for my new EDC blade and was wondering if you have any thoughts on these knives. It will be used primarily for cutting cardboard although it'll have to perform other EDC tasks as well. The Grip is a little larger (I haven't seen one in person) so I may change my mind to the Mini Grip after I see it with my own eyes. I've owned Spydies in the past as well as Kershaws and have always been impressed with the shaving sharp edge that can be attained with these. Any opinions would be appreciated......

$100, $65, $45... The knives are also really different from each other. Personally, I LOVE the axis and the 550HG. 100% USA made, 154cm= my fav. steel, GREAT ergos, mine has an absolutely perfect hollow grind... I could type a whole lot of comparisons, but I'm gonna recommend that you do a search on youtube. It is a GREAT way to "see" what you're getting into. Personally I would choose the Full Size Griptilian... but I have L-XL hands. The mini is toooo small for me.

I'll be doing a video on the 550HG in a few days.

Thanks Archie. I have the BM 710 already as well as both Large and Small Sebenzas. In fact the small Sebenza has been in my pocket for the better part of 8 years. Its seen its fair share of abuse and I am about to send it in to CR for a "Tune-Up" after which it will not be used anymore (maybe). I realize there is quite the $ difference in the 3 I mentioned but they all appeal to me in one way or another so thats why I listed them...I am curious as to which one will make the better box cutter?

I usually say kershaw but the leek seems too pointy for my cardboard cutting. The benchmade will be the better edc but the spyderco will cut cardboard a little better imho. Id go with the benchmade because Im sure cutting cardboard isnt going to be all that you do with it as a usual edc.

of course, if you wanted to go fixed you could get a crkt sting. despite what everyone says about the sheath being crap, i found it to be alright, and the knife is indestructable. the blades only about 3", and you can get 'em for 40$, or even less.

How about a Random Leek? The blade is more of a sheepfoot design. The Leek design is overall one of the best knives for the money. My Leeks have never let me down.

Here's a pic from another member (svrider3) on the forums. Examples of the Random shaped blade are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th knives in the pic.

Good luck.

I'd take the caly, great ergonomics, good working steel, smooth opening, not scary looking, there just some much good to say about it.

Should you still consider the excellent Caly, I just posted another thread comparing it with the recent Spyderco Sage, which you may just prefer. Check it out.

Thankyou Gentlemen....I stopped by my local retailer today to check out these three and I must say the choice for me was obvious as soon as I picked up the Caly3 (didn't have the Sage in stock). I had never even given this knife a second thought before as IMO there are better looking Folders out there. However, my opinion changed as soon as I picked it up. Very ergo friendly, well balanced and pure quality throughout! Actually I liked everything about the Leek (they only had a serrated version in stock) and the BM Grip (except for the handle as I just didn't like the texture on it). Also liked the BM Kulgera (I'll pick one up in the New Year). So, I picked up the Caly3 and I 'll be ordering the Kershaw online so I can get a plain blade. Thankyou All again for your valued input!!!!!
