So for a few months now I've been carrying a wave in my back right pocket next to my wallet. Loving the tools on the wave but not the heavy weight I'm in search for a new back pocket tool. What could you guys recommend for a lighter leatherman.

If you want something lighter I would say the Rebar is a incredible tool. Only downside is no scissors, but it has everything else you could need. It packs A LOT of tools in a small package. Even lighter I would say the Skeletool is a excellent choice depending on your tool needs. Even smaller yet still very usable (again depending on your needs) is the Juice. I would go for the S2 if you get a Juice. I would probably take a Skeletool over the Juice and definitely the Rebar over the others. If you need some size comparison pictures let me know. I have all three.

Something I would highly suggest would be the Sideclip. Very lightweight yet full size. It is also very slim which makes it disappear in a pocket. The Sideclip has been discontinued for a while and they usually sell for a premium, but they can be had on a certain auction website for cheap occasionally.

Do you typically carry a backpack of some sort with you? If so, maybe you need a new carry system.

I keep my full sized Leatherman in my pack. I find I don't need the full selections of tools every moment of the day. When I do, I'll just get it from my pack.

Then, I carry a single blade EDC knife in my right front pocket and a Leatherman Micra in my left front pocket with my money clip. I find I can deal with 90% of my needs with the Micra and I enjoy a single blade knife infinitely better than dealing with the clunky ergonomics of the MT.

If I have a job that needs the MT, I'll just slip in my rear pocket. But when I'm done, it goes back to the pack.

I've found the Rebar to be about the perfect compromise when it comes to tool set. It has every thing I need, and nothing I don't. I generally carry a folder in my pocket, so having a one hand opening tool isn't that big of an issue. That said the Skeletool and MUT are fantastic tools for minimalist/specialty needs.

The Rebar just packs more of what I need in a belt friendly package.

Skeletool or Wingman/sidekick/rev are your best bets for a lighter leatherman to clip on your back pocket. I personally like the wingman a lot with the exception of the weak wire cutters, they just can't handle thicker stuff.

Carrying a Wave in your back pocket sounds not just cumbersome, but downright painful. I'll second the suggestion that maybe you should look at your carry system.

Does your Wave have a pocket clip? If not, maybe try that first—it's about $5, and just snaps right into the tool. It really does make a huge difference in how it carries.

Which tools do you actually need? The Leatherman Skeletool CX is medium-sized, lightweight, and has 90-95% of the functionality that most people need on a daily basis. It can be supplemented by a small keychain tool like a Leatherman Micra or Swiss Army knife for whatever tools you might miss.

If you want pocket carry, there's the Leatherman Juice line. Or carry a Swiss Army-style knife with something like a Gerber Dime or Leatherman Squirt. There are SAKs with pliers, for that matter.

And as mentioned, the Sidekick/Wingman are slightly smaller and more lightweight than the Wave, though not by much. I wouldn't recommend the Rev at all.

Rebar is a good choice if you want a comprehensive tool set. If you want something a bit slimmer, but still with all locking tools, the retired Fuse is a great multitool.

Skeletool is a fantastic minimalist tool. Great size, good knife, good pliers and serviceable drivers. Biggest issue with the Skele is the ergos, which are polarizing at best.

The Wingman/Sidekick series are ok, but for the price ymtheres better out there.

Also, skeletool is $20 at Home Depot (online too), if you happen to be American

For pocket carry I like the Leatherman Juice CS4. Used to carry the Juice S2 until I misplaced it.

It is a bit smaller but if I carried a larger one I think it would be on my belt and not in the pocket.

Love my wingman
