I can't find any store nearby that carry more than 1 or two, which SAk is best(in your opinion in the $20-$30 range, sorry to bug you all with such a question, I just found a SAK my dad gave me as a kid, but unfortunetly its in bad condition, I NEED a new one.:D

Some of my favorites in that price range are the fieldmaster and ranger, lots of tools, still comfortable to carry.

I really like my Deluxe Tinker

You should be able to find both in your price range. Whatever you decide on, you should browse Felinevet's Shop. He is a great guy, has great prices, ships quickly and is very honest (most of his stuff has free shipping BTW). Good luck!!

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately this has not helped, now instead of having no idea what to get, I have too many! i just have to find somewhere that carries alot so I can hold them. Hopefully i can get down to GP knives in Troy, Il.. But that is a long way away, I will keep my eyes open though.

Depending upon the size you want, there are LOTS of excellent choices. Some of my favorites in that price range, that are currently in production, include these:

Victorinox:
Executive
Compact
Explorer
Climber

Wenger:
Traveler

well, I would first list down all the tools you think you will use then go from there. For urban carry, I use the Compact Knife and that served me well.

I'm new to the forum. I was in the same boat as you about a month ago. I lost my best friend a Vic. Tinker (it had the split phillips screwdriver to act as a can key). I missed having sissor for EDC but I like how thin the Tinker as. I bought a Vic Compact which is almost as thin as the Tinker but has sissors and other stuff. Check it out.

I think you need to narrow down your needs to determine which knife will be best.

That said, I highly suggest the Victorinox Soldier for $21.50 shipped from Felinevet. I am consistently blown away by the incredible quality, value and usefulness of it. I still consider it to be the best performance-per-dollar purchase I have ever made.

If the Soldier appears too large, then the Cadet is similar to the Soldier (some different tools), but substantially smaller. It rides easily in a watch pocket.

The Cadet II is the same size as the Cadet, and is the Alox version (and smaller, due to the Alox scales) of the Recruit.
The Recruit is available at many stores, including WalMart for about $13, and is an excellent little knife.

try ira wood and sons-search for the link-click on manufactureres and find vic-they have a very very good selection at the most competitve prices ive found-HOWEVER-the 'catch' is that there is about a 10 shipping and handling charge-UNLESS you buy $100 worth-but the prices are smoking

I came upon a small bait and tackle shop in my area that had quite a few selections, and I chose........... A SUPER TINKER!! I was stuck between the super, and deluxe tinkers, but for the pliers in the deluxe doubled the price. So I got a Super tinker for under $20 after tax! So far in the 2 hours I have owned it I have been immpressed, great knife!

Enjoy your new SAK. Trust me the 1st impression doesn't wear off. Beware though. One SAK is never enough. Your journey for the perfect SAK has just begun. Welcome to the insanity.:)

True enough, in my case, but not inevitable.

Decades ago, I gave my then future wife a Super Tinker equivalent with corkscrew instead of PH screwdriver. She has been completely satified with it, carries it everywhere and uses it often (I provide maintenance). Every once in a while I suggest a replacement with some other model I think she might like, but always get turned down.

Not everyone is nuts ;) .

I'll second this. I currently have a Tinker and a Champ (as well as a couple other not important to this thread models). While the Champ isn't really THAT big, it is big and it is a bit over your price target. However the Tinker is missing some neat tools - scissors for example. The Super Tinker seems to fall right between the two in function as well as price. I think that would be a good choice, plus you can get them at Target.

Oh, you think you are only going to buy one huh?

A couple of months ago I said I couldn't see myself ever buying a SAK. Now I have four or five of them.
