I have recently gotten back on my grinder - it’s been SOME TIME ,disc issues, and 440c is warping on me - I understand it’s rolled now - I need a new steel comparable but not prone to warping - heat treat as well -
Just made a few outta D2 and I have a tough time getting it sharp -

What do you mean by "rolled"?

Rolling to reduce the thickness during production?

Stored on a roll when production is complete?

Steel that is not rolled, unicorn horn handle material, 0% Mn steel. All are imaginary things.

All steel we get is rolled
. It is rolled many times to reduce the huge ingot into a large sheet.
Some is shipped as huge coils. This is cost effective.
It is sheared into sheets. This makes storing and shipping practical.
It is sheared again by the sellers into the bars that we buy.
Buying properly annealed bars helps with warp problems.

Proper HT regime with stress reduction and annealing will cure 99% of warp issues.
Larrin deals with this in his knifenerds book - Knife Engineering.
