Hello,

I find myself in need of another waist pack, my usual one has just gotten to crappy to fill my needs. I really could go either way on whether or not it has a molle system, I would like to spend no more than $50 though. Right now the only thing I have come across is the Proforce Response Pak, Maxpedition M-4 or M-5, but there as to be more. Also, I have no problem buying old military surplus packs. The things I keep in my bag are as followed;

SOL One Person Thermal Blanket
Cheap Poncho
Whistle
Flashlight
Fire Starter
Lighter
Bandages
Antibiotics and Ointment
Super Glue
Multi-tool
Swiss Army Knife
Pocket Sharpener
Cell Phone
Small Burlap Sack (If I come across some mushrooms)

I probably have more, but that's just off the top of my head. I'm a rather bulky guy so size and weight isn't really problem.

Snugpak Responder bag is good
A long waist belt
Three outside pockets and a decent sized main pocket
With lots of molle type bands

I have a mountainsmith waist pack that has held up pretty well to a couple of years' worth of hiking and bumming around.

I rigged up shoulder straps on my Hip Monkey. It's cinched up in the pictures but expands if needed.

It works well for me-I like the easy access up front. For me the selling points are if you carry a pack it does not interfere with the waist strap and you can wade in deep water and keep your gear dry.( It's also an outstanding CCW rig).

from my experience things like that aren't bulky guy friendly

I have a mountainsmith Tour... and Love it.

+1 Me too. It holds a lot of gear with out being too bulky for waist carry. I mainly use it as a supplemental pack for essentials when I am doing all day activities with Cub scouts, that take me away from out tenting area. It allows me to carry the "10 outdoor essentials" with ease & spare items for my son & other boys. I was even able to jam both our swim suits & towels onto the lashings on the outside.
