Hey guys, I'm not much of a watch person, simply because I have too many other hobbies, (sicknesses) but if I were, I know I'd be spending as much as I do on guns / knives / F-150 "go fast" parts. I REALLY like Elishewitz's watches: http://www.elishewitzknives.com/Watches.asp Well, I don't need that right now, but I would drop $100 or so on the right one. I have never worn watches till about 3 1/2 years ago when my ol lady bought me this: http://www.watchzone.com/watchzone/images/kc3279.jpg

It's a Kenneth Cole model KC3279. Retails at $125. I LOVE the looks / size of the watch and only had to replace the battery once. It just died again a few days ago. It also got welded to my arm when I shorted the battery on my street bike so you can understand my "attachment" to her. ;) I think it's time, however, to look into getting something else, possibly a little nicer.

As I said, I don't know jack about watches and was wondering what the major differences were such as automatics, chrono, quartz, solar, etc. I'd be interested in something that didn't require a new battery every two years. I had been looking at Traser watches, but only the two higher end models come with a metal band and I can't see having to purchase it seperately. Where is a good online place to shop / buy besides eBay? Any recommendations?

My requirements are:

- that it has some "gadget" factor. Love the four screws in the top of the face of my Kenneth Cole.

- that it isn't too "tall". I don't like watches that stand off the arm too high...I beat it against everything.

- band must be metal

- I'd really like titanium, but figure they are out of my price range???

- must be analog and include date.

- face must be VERY scratch / chip resistant.

Hi Jackal-

Toss some of those phrases in a search and you'll be amazed with the results. I would trim it back to what has been discussed only in the past six months to make the total number of posts a little easier to digest. Wristwatches are absolutely one of the most recurring topics of discussion on this forum.

For what you want I'd suggest looking at Citizen Eco Drive. Analog, Quartz precision, recharges from light, lots of models for a wide range of budgets, some in Titanium and not that expensive really.

I have two, one dress, one sports.

But I must admit that I usually wear a Seiko 5 Automatic, trusty and not expensive, that would be my second recommendation.

I will put my .02 cents in this again.. I am swearing by mine.. and you will not find a cheaper deal on this quality of watch.. check out Sky Timer Automatic/Date.. It even has the Saphire crystals

Thanks guys, will check these out...am leaning toward a Citizen Titanium Eco-Drive from bluedial.com ;)

...Excellent choice!...The Citizen Eco-Drive watches are GREAT!

For $100 you won't get everything you want. You'll probably have to forgo the scratch resistance for sapphire crystal. But i'd second the recommendations for the Eco Drive. Best value watch now. If you're willing to spend a bit more for gadgety watches the new seikos are rather nice and modern looking with their Kinetic Auto Relay

Some Seiko Kinetics

I bought a Citizen Eco Drive Stiletto. It's very thin, has a sapphire crystal and a gold tone metal band. You can pick one up for a couple of hundred bucks (probably less if you search around).

I love the watch but I didn't do enough research before buying - it was kind of an impulse buy. It's only "water resistant" which pretty much means that it won't fog up too badly on a humid day, but you can't really immerse it in water - even to wash your hands or rinse the dishes. I don't need a watch that's waterproof to 800 feet but if I buy another one it will sure as heck have a better water resistance rating than the one I bought.

Hey man, it's been a long time. Anyway, I actually DO like that watch quite a bit...was looking at it on bluedial, but I think I'm only looking at kinetics and eco-drives now. The one I'm looking at says water resistant to 100m.

Yeah, I think you really need the one I'm trying to sell. Work with me here! :)
The Eco-Drives look nice. I have a regular ol' Luminox "Navy Seals" watch and I love it. A friend has a Citizen titanium watch (not sure which model, if it's Eco Drive or what) and it looks really nice. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these, really...

Just for the "gadget factor" I would say go with an automatic. They only real drawback to an auto is that it won't be as accurate as a quartz watch, they will gain or lose some amount of time in a month. I am talking a matter of a few mintues a month really not that huge of a deal. If you think that would be a problem for you then read on.

If you like the pure accuracy of a quartz watch, but the gadget factor of an automatic, look into something like the Seiko Kinetic line. They are a quartz movement powered by a capacitor that is charged by a similiar type of movement as an automatic. It would probably be a good compromise of pure accuracy and cool factor.

IMHO one of the coolest watches with a quartz movement is the Luminox line. The cool part is that they use tritium vials for illumination of the markers. This means it will be bright for many years with no need to "charge" the luminous markings. I am seriously considering one myself as a beater for when I don't want to wear my more expensive SMP.

Only thing that sucks is theres no seeing it at night. :(

Looks like the hands have some kind of luminescent coating on them. Chances are it will glow enough to read in the dark.
