Hey Guys...

I'm doing some training this weekend with Scouts for my Woodbadge Part II and need a cheap simple but Cool craft for 10 Cub Scouts...

I have to teach this to approx 10 adults..

I'm Absolutely Stuck and all I can find on the web is Crap..

So I come to the Experts...

Any ideas will be welcomed..

Thanks

What about carving a spoon, or making a soda can alcohol stove? I'm not sure if either of these would be appropriate for cub scouts though, what do you think?

We were given a large dowel , 1 1/2 " , and carved totem poles .Carving skills and indian culture !

Hey Guys...

Thought about the stove already...
Carving is out of the question as these are 8-11 year olds,,so unfortunately anything knife related is out...

Thanks

How about a 550 cord fob for their scout pocket knives

That might not be bad.

I was thinking making fishing kits for a PSK, but might be too expensive?

Will this be indoors? What about working on something useful, like fire building skills?

Fish traps. you can use Popsicle sticks and river rocks to demo and explain the principles to them.

Lanyards are great and basically easy to teach to that age group. The scouts even have ready made lanyard kits with the plastic craft lace. If you can find them, a neckerchief slide made from a 35mm film canister with first aid supplies is a neat and easy craft. You could also substitute for PSK. Another good one would be to get a supply for ferro rods off Ebay or the like and make fire starters. All you would need is a branch and cut to size , drill hole, glue in ferro rod, shape/smooth with sandpaper, attach a piece of saw blade with serrations removed and you're good to go. If you need any more ideas shoot me a E-mail and I will see what I can come up with.

Choctaw Rabbit Sticks!
Make 'em out of any tree, but they should be hickory if you want to be "correct". Talk about the use and functions of a rabbit stick, how they relate to terrain (IE, found in open terrain such as Australia and South East meadows), and finally, testing their sticks on a rabbit (soccer ball!)
PM me for more info and I'll get you set up!

yea make some wabbit sticks! bring a stuffed bunny and place it near some shrubs and let them have at it.

Tagging this for my own selfish use :)

It's getting late in the school year and it's getting harder and harder to come up with fun ideas for the boys.

Narrow PVC pipe, piece of inner tube, duct tape, stick arrow...projectile tool.

oh...and bring a lawyer. :)

OK, sorry.

Always wished I'd learned how to make the simplest shelter possible: Windbreak, rain shelter, heat retention...some something. Read of kids lost in woods off the trail...just sitting there.

have fun.
