ok guys,

I am going to california for 2 months this school semester (taking a semester off).

I dont feel comfortable carrying my ZT because of the assisted opening, even if it is legal there. So I am looking for a new knife (I love excuses to get more :D).

here is kind of what I am looking for

3 inch blade (I want to keep in mind any local statutes)
non-flipper, auto, or assisted opening
I'd like plain steel, so no blade coatings. (I personally like satin finish, but that isn't that big of a deal
pocket clip (I would like deep carry clip, but not necessary)
straight edge (no serrations)
one hand opening

budget 120 give or take, I'm willing pay up to 200 if I really like it or fits exactly what I want and more

my knife history my help as well I have carried a benchmade 580 barrage or a while and have been carrying a ZT0350 lately. I also have a large sebenza 21 that I will get on the 30th (already paid for, that is just when i get it)

I will also be carrying a leatherman PST and a swiss army knife (or some other slipjoint, havent decided)

I have never had a spyderco, so they are high on my list (to round out my collection) especially their rust proof steel.

thanks in advance for the recommendations

also, if anyone has any ideas for ways to sharpen my knives when I am there that is smaller and lighter than my bench stone, etc.. that too would be greatly appreciated

I like the sage, I saw the one with the carbon fiber (sage1 i think?) and i like it a bit better than the other 2 actually.

I have been cruising the benchmade site and like the 707 sequel as well, any thoughts on those? (I miss my axis lock on the 580)

Sage 1...

I love the 707. It's a small version of the 710 which I find kind of big for edc. In the Benchmades I'd also consider a mini-griptilian. It's my favorite edc. You can customize one on their website for color, steel, and clip of your choice.

Well, I finally went to my local spyderco dealer yesterday looking for a sage. They didn't have any so I looked at BM mini grip and a couple other spydercoa they had

I ended up getting a spyderco delica, it didn't have the deep pocket carry like I was hoping, but I liked it a lot and so I got it. It is flat ground with blue handles

It doesn't look scary so it was pretty close to what I was looking for, it's my first spyderco and I like it so far, a paramilitary may be next on my list now
