Greetings, i have recently gotten a large meat cleaver, the blade is 9" long and carbon. This thing is a beast. It came without scales but the full, tapered tang has three holes to attach them. While my sharpening skills are improving I dont have the equipment to regrind the edge and properly restore it from the numerous nicks in it. It would take forever with my stones.

I have a grinder but am concerned about heating it up and messing up the temper. I need someone that knows what they are doing. I also would like to attach new scales but have tried in the past and am less than satisfied with my results. I have some slabs of dried osage I would like to get frimly attached. If anyone is interested in doing the work or pointing me to someone who would be please let me know.
Thanks for any help.

i could do that for you, but i've never done this sort of thing before. i have done quite a few blades though, and feel that i have a good grasp of what i'm doing. you can check out my website in my sig for photos of what i've done.

the osage that you have-is in scales already or is it in a block?

if you are interested, shoot me an email or pm and we can work out the details.

i think that STR mostly does folders, but he could probably do it for you...you can check out his forum under individual maker's forums.

i just made a chopper, meat cleaver and a wharncliff thats good size. they arent as hard to sharpen as you might think. the same for attaching scales. i could do it for you also. i have some of my work posted on the forum. links can be found in my profile if you wish to see what i do.

Thanks for the reply guys. It looks like you are both very capable. I ended up going with siguy because he posted first. But i appreciate both resonses.

well, i ALSO have a cleaver that i'd like re-hafted, with the caveat that one scale is cracked and it might be possible to epoxy the crack and clamp it, and repair the existing damage sufficiently to quit. i am not interested in cosmetics, just utility. Anybody want to attempt a resurrection? I don't own any knife wood, closest thing i've got is some elk stag and i'd like to save it for knife scales.. but i'd settle for any sort of wood, walnut or hickory or whatever was convenient.. my email is mitchshrader (at) hotmail.com if you're interested, let me know your terms and turnaround time (estimate) and I'll decide what works. thank you much in advance.. whoever it is. ;)
