Hey all, I recently got my first Becker (Bk7) and as expected instantly fell in love. I'm ready to get my next Becker and want to find the perfect one to go with my Bk7. Since the Bk7 handles all my heavy duty needs like chopping/batoning etc... I need a knife to handle more delicate work around camp like carving, processing fish, making weapons(spears), etc... I currently have a Mora I'm going to replace which works well but personally it just didn't feel right. Ive been leaning towards the Bk10 being so light and similar to the Bk2 but less intended for heavy work. I love the aesthetics of the 10 but the sheath the 2 comes with is hard to resist. Ultimately I want a knife that will balance with my Bk7 best and be easy to use/carry on long hikes and camp trips.

Welcome to the addiction haha

As far as the bk2 is concerned concerned, you are almost guaranteed to own one eventually as a Becker fan, though they do weigh a full pound so keep that in mind for hiking. In my opinion I couldn't imagine buying a bk2 And not intend on using it for rough use, it's a batonning beast!

For the smaller stuff, look into the tweeners (15,16,17) and you'll probably find one that fits your exact need

Might also be a good idea to check out the bk11 and bk14 for the edc size beckers

Whatever you choose WE WANT PICTURES!!!

Welcome. glad to hear you love the 7 (one that I don't have).
I started with the BK2 and a big blade (bk4)then a small one to complement it (bk14).
soon after the 14, kabar came out with the 24 so I had to have it too. Then....
You get the picture. Of all the Beckers I own, My personal favorites are 15 because its used the most, then the 4 when paired with the 16 in the woods.
The 24 gets carried almost daily while the 14 sits in my hunting tote. I have not even used the 9 and have owned it over 2 years because the 4 is so awesome...
You know you want them all! I would start with a 4, 15 and 5 since they are going away and will not be readily available, and they are selling pretty cheap now.

He makes a very good point - not to mention the 15 would be a great combo with your 7

Welcome! From what you want in a smaller knife I'm thinking the 10 could be too big for processing fish and truly detailed work. The blade is pretty tall/wide (edge to spine) and thick, but not as much as the 2. I absolutely love my 16, but I wouldn't detract from those in favor of the 15. An 11 is next on my list and could work really well for a teammate for your 7.

i have a 10 and unless you are a total whimp, you could use the 10 for processing fish and detailed work.

I suspect you would find the BK 10 too similar in size and heft to gain a significant advantage from that combo.
I agree with the other suggestions of BK16 or BK24.
the 16 is as close to an ideal general purpose woods knife as I have found in a factory knife -- and has a blade length similar to that of your Mora, so minimal adjustment needed to technique. the 24 is smaller and significantly lighter, but surprisingly robust and comfortable for a wide range of tasks you would not expect it to handle as well as it does -- for example, one year I used my 24 to debone a couple whitetail deer in freezing weather with no issues. granted, I had factory scales on it for better grip and ease of cleaning.
the BK15 is another good one -- it's not as efficient for many woods tasks as the 16 due to length of blade, but is ideally designed for meat processing, cleaning fish, etc...

My only Becker is the Remora, but I have handled and used the BK 11 and it is a great knife. I think it would be an ideal secondary small chore knife. The 14 and 16 are on my list and I think they would be good secondary knives as well.

I'd recommend the BK16. It really is an amazing knife. I just paired it with a new leather sheath today, and I couldn't be happier with that knife. The micatra scales make this great knife even better.

Many thoughts here echo mine but I would like to add, or perhaps reinforce the following:

The BK10 is similar to the BK7 except, of course, for length and the clip of the point. If you like the 7, you'll like the 10 but may find them too similar - certainly compared to you other Becker options.

You will eventually wind up with a BK2 (and 9) ;).
Given that indisputable and undeniable fact, you may as well give in and just get a 2 or a 9 with my vote going to the 9. However, you stated that, at least for now, you are satisfied that the BK7 handles your heavy work I'd look for a smaller knife or heavier work. Seems like you're looking for a knife - not heavier work, so let's move on.

You already have a Mora and despite that fact that I totally agree that the BK16 is a great knife, I would direct you more to my favorite Tweener, the BK15. It's a slicing, dicing great handy all-arounder and enough different than you Mora that it will not be redundant. For reasons having nothing to do with the abilities and handiness of the knife, it is rumored to be discontinued and available at bargain prices compared to the also wonderful BK16.

Hope I didn't cause more questions than answers. Happy hunting.

This is a good point. The BK15 is around $42 right now online at multiple stores (the BK5 is reduced as well). I can't think of any knife that can stand up to the 15 at that price point.

Hate it when I notice a typo in a quote of my post instead of the post itself!:foot::rolleyes:

I noticed that price for the 15 as well and was really surprised. So you could have the 5 and the 15 for around $102. Amazing!!!!

Thanks to everyone who contributed to this post you were all very helpful! After digesting all these opinions and after narrowing down the long list of Beckers that I want I ended up picking a tweener. The Bk17 won over the Bk16 only b/c I'm a sucker for clip points! Amazon primed that bad boy with same day shipping and viola!
