first off hi, first post, need a little help.

I lost my blackout a while back and id like to replace it. I thought it held for a good long time, was a good size, not too big for the pocket and It opened good and fast. my dilemma is should I try something different or should I just get another blackout.

here is what id be looking for:
would like to have assisted opening, but its not a necessity, would like comparable blade size to the blackout, non serrated edge, I kinda like the black coating, but its not a necessity, would like it to be under $100, new blackouts are going for about 48. so what do you think??

cant seem to get any answers on other forums, so I figured Id come to where the knife guys are at. thanks

i love the blackout... edc'd one for about a year but i broke the tip doing something stupid. i would seriously consider getting another one or stepping up and getting a nitrous stryker or another bm assisted

The Kershaw Avalanche is an upgrade to the Blackout. The Avalanche has an S30V blade with G10 scales and is comparable in size to the Blackout.

if you want a good quality sub 100 dollar folder and prefer a/o but want to try something with a nicer feel, then i would reccomend a nicer kershaw. i would highly recommend a g10 handle but youll probably end up with an aluminum or steel handle on a kershaw, but either will feel nicer than an frn handle. kershaw also comes with many many different fancy blade steels and coatings. you might like....an s30v blur. has a colored aluminum handle with grip, a/o, ideal blade and andle shape, and i believe theres some coated versions. you might also try a scallion or leek if you want a more compact and lighter weight a/o, and boy do they come in some fancy coatings like tungsten dlc that youd love. or if you really like the blackout design an avalanche is a far superior version, but its almost identical in design so if you want to try something new its not for you. but there are many many options, just go check out the kershaw subforum theyll surely recommend about 150 different models that will suit you

Welcome to the forums loki993. I think all the major knife co's have something you would like. Kershaw, Spyderco, Benchmade, SOG, Buck, etc. Check out their web sites then you could narrow down your choices. Good luck.

The blackout is my first Kershaw roughly 10 years ago. It was great, but now outdated. Not worth that amount anymore if you ask me.

For about half of that hundred, i'd suggest a Blur. For the entire hundred, try a Spec bump, it has more of a shaped handle like the Blackout.

How about a Benchmade 550 or 551? About the same size and slightly lighter. Not AO, but they open quick enough. Well under $100.

Great knives.

If you like the Blackout that much take the hundred bucks and buy two. If you're open to something new I would also recommend a Blur. Go with either an S30V or S60V blemish. Love me some Blurs.

saw that thanks. heres what im looking at so far:

BM auto presidio, its a bit out of my range though
CRKT Elishewitz Pharaoh or anubis
nitrous striker, but again a bit out of my range, but very close
kershaw avalanche, I do like this one
sog aegis trident or flash
what do you think?? anything better?

theres also a few cool Damascus kershaws, but are they hard?? or is the Damascus just a collector thing?

how about the kershaw whirlwind ? i think whirlwinds can be found pretty cheap online, they are decent assist knives. they are one of my favorites.

honestly though, thats pretty much the same as the blackout. im really thinking now I may want to try something different.

Loki take a look at the Kershaw RAM model #1910. It is a flipper that is as fast as any AO and some autos. With a little practice you can also flip it closed awful fast too. It has good steel is easy to sharpen and would be a good deal @ twice the price IMHO the knife comes in black also look here:http://tinyurl.com/alpcs2

i have a sog flash 2, i really like it a lot. they dont cost too much either. good assist action.
