I just recently purchased a Benchmade 710, the large model. I need a sheath for it, and I prefer leather with a snap, but will also option for kydex. Can anybody recommend a maker or company that makes a sheath for the 710 in either leather or kydex? Thanks for all your help. Big D1

Hi Big D1,

I would suggest strongly that you check out Mike Sastre of River City Sheaths. His e-mail address is VideoSAS@aol.com He made an awesome concelex sheath for my Sifu. His work is top notch! He is also a real gent to deal with. For some examples, check out the REKAT forum and find a thread titled Sifu Sheath. That will give you some more input into Mikes sheaths, and at least a picture or so to look at. Good luck and stay sharp.

Hey Big D1, I saw that they offered kydex sheaths in the back of Benchmades catalog. Maybe you could call them and see if they have one for the 710. I remember they had both vertical and horizontal.

You might also try Gary Graley (G2). He posts here regularly. I have not yet had him do a sheath for me, but he is very well-regarded and the pics I have seen of his work are beautiful.

I just have to part with one of my precious possessions long enough for him to do a custom one for me. :)

Look here

Normark does excellent work. He also has a 710 so you wouldn't have to send the knife off to get fitted.

Call me crazy... but why... exactly, did you buy a folder only to go off and get a sheath for it... this eludes me.

Just a guess; To carry it?

He doesn't mean a sheath like those used for fixed blades. He means a carrying pouch like those that you get with Leathermans. Remember that the clip is somewhat new and has become popular only in the last 5 to 7 years. Some folders -- like traditional rosewood handled lockbacks -- still don't have clips. I have a SOG Magnadot that came with a pouch.

The sheath (or pouch) is actually a better idea, for example, if you use your knife for camping, hiking, fishing,...since you are less apt to lose your knife. Those clips can sometimes be a little precarious and it's not uncommon to lose a knife or two carrying it that way. Heck I've accidentally forgotten knives clipped to my pants pocket and they've gone through the laundry.

The sheath protects your knife too and keeps the scales, and exposed part of the blade spine looking new.

As for finding a pouch for Benchmade Axi. It should be as easy as a trip to the knive store, or army surplus store. Trying to find a sheath for my REKAT Sifu, on the other hand,...

I suppose you've got a point...

I personally converted to clip folders from my leatherman because I discovered that extra sheath hanging on my belt interfered with things I normally did (like getting in the car or a small seat).

So because of that I sometimes operate on the assumption that others share my attitudes, but I see now why you would carry it sheathed.

Not sure if you are aware but if you are really desperate, Benchmade sells generic nylon sheathes for their knives, I know you said Kydex or Leather, but these are the only sheathes I know of for benchmades.

Good luck.

Killer sheaths. Got one for a small Seb, and like it enough that I've got a custom ordered sans clip, 'cause it's going to Gary for a sheath.

I've got one of Normark's Concealex cross-draw horizontal rigs for my 710HS. Keeps the knife out of the way, but easy to get to, and is both very secure, and fast. Dennis already gave the link, but here it is again, anyway:

Highly recommend both of these guys, and their work.

Maybe you should consider a Quick-Draw horizontal leather sheath? Its at least as fast to draw a knife as when clipped inside your pocket. And it's not too complicated for a DIY project. Above there is my first attempt to such a sheath for my Avalanche.
